Mini Blooms and Cactus
Mini Yellow Blooms
Ever since I got my macro lens a few months back I have been using it to snap pictures of blooms, the kids and also food. It does take time getting used to a fixed focal length and learning how to manually adjust the settings on the camera. Here are some close up shots which I took on our recent vacation in Malaysia.
Pink blooms
With smaller flowers one has to really get up close to ensure that the details of the blooms are being captured. Sometimes the shots do not turn up as crisp as I would like them to be. As you can see the focus is better in the yellow blooms above as compared to this picture of the pink blooms.
Bougainvillea
Sometimes it can be quite hard to spot the flower especially if it is hidden among the coloured leaves like the bougainvillea above. You really need a keen eye to be able to spot them and zoom in on it.
Flowering Cactus
Sometimes you can find blooms in the strangest places. This was the first time that I saw a flowering cactus. Most of the time I only see the prickly green leaves of the plant.

Nice colours – I like the bougainvillea ones best. I should try and improve my photography skills too!

I just love flowers! I come from Glendora, California, where at one time, they were the bougainvillea capital of California. They had the most bougainvilleas there than anywhere else. Most of them are gone now. Just a token of them left now with the State of California plaque.

Hi ya, love using my macro lens for flowers! One thing that I always forget is that macro lenses are great for shooting non-macro items as well! Prime lenses are so much more “detailed” when if comes to image quality (IMHO).
Here’s an example of using your macro for non-macro reasons! I know it’s hard for me to get outta the “macro” mind frame all the time! 😀

@David,
Thanks for dropping by an your link. Yup.. Agree that Macro lens are good for taking non macro items. Am trying it out taking portraits of the kids too but am not that successful as they can’t keep still for the shots 🙂 Macro is also good for food photography 🙂

wow, so pretty! looks like you have mastered the macro already. I just use a simple point & shoot sony. my hubby has a fancy one w/lenses, to far complex for me.

Nice shots. Agree with you, most subjects for photography, especially flowers, are seen in strange places. You just need an eye to see them.
April 10, 2013 @ 1:25 pm
i love how you snap the photos! especially detailed they were.. 🙂

What beautiful photos. I have had some difficulty with the macro setting on my camera (Nikon D40) but that is with a zoom lens. I’d love a dedicated macro lens.

These are pretty blooms considering they’re cactus!
