Room with a View

During out trip to Penang, Malaysia we  stayed in a service apartment instead of a hotel. Having stayed in hotels I knew that the size of the room was rather small and it would certainly be a tight squeeze for our family of 5 with the extended family to fit into two rooms.

I chose  to stay Gurney Residence which was located near  the famous  Gurney Drive eating/shopping strip.

The service apartment wasn’t as posh as a hotel but it was certainly more  practical as we the kids had more then ample space to move around.

We had an apartment on a high floor and the sea view was certainly magnificent.  Just look at what greeted us from the balcony.

Even though it rained and the sky looked ominous the view was still breathtaking.  Looking out to the vast  ocean really makes one feel calm and at peace.

The sofa in the living room was really enormous. It can easily accommodate  10 adults.  The only drawback that the television set was really tiny at 21 inches wide. It would have been superb if it was a  50 or 60 inch set as we were all straining to see what was being shown on television seated at the sofa. In the end  we shifted some seats of the sofa nearer the screen to be able to watch more comfortably.

The kitchen was sparsely equipped and we didn’t cook as the cooking utensils that they provided were  not in good condition. There were  many nice restaurants nearby and we ate out after spending the whole day out at the various attractions.

The kids were thrilled to see the huge bathtub and couldn’t wait to try it out. Unfortunately the jacuzzi function didn’t work so they were only able to use it as a normal tub.

There was a queen size bed in each room giving ample space for the kids to roll around in bed

We were upgraded to a 4 bedroom suite  for a night when we checked in as the 3 bedroom one that we booked was not ready for occupation. The kids went wild running from one bedroom to another playing hide and seek.

There were bathrooms in each bedroom so we did not need to take turns using it.

My Resolutions for 2015

Resolutions for 2015

Resolutions for 2015

2015 is the year for massive change in our life.  For once I’ll be able to have some time to myself while ALL the kids  are in  morning school.

I’m embarking on a few new challenges in addition to the Weight Lost Challenge  that I announced in October.  I’m doing a  de-clutter challenge and also a healthy eating one as I re-sync myself  in plan with my  healthy living motto.

Why start on a De-clutter Challenge?

I’ve been hording too many things in the house which has collected dust since they were purchased.   Art material that I had purchased remain untouched as I haven’t really been doing much crafts with them as I’m not really an artsy person.

Bento  making equipment  and Cookie cutters by the  dozen  which were bought  to create lunch boxes for the kids have been under utilized. The boys do not fancy bringing  lunch boxes to school and would rather purchase food from the canteen instead.  I’ve decided to use the equipment to make fancy lunches or dinners for the kids instead since they return home for lunch on most afternoons.

The kids have a lot of story books  which have been passed down to them from friends with older kids or relatives.  There are so many books that they have been cluttering  our bookshelf which they do not read. I have yet to go through each of the books in the cupboard to see if they are still suitable for the kids to read or need to be given away to free up space in that cupboard.

Why  another Healthy Eating Challenge?

Even though we have stepped up on eating more natural foods at home there is quite a lot that I have to learn.  It has been difficult to lose weight last year due to the fact that I may not have been eating right for my body type. I will be actively tuning my diet to get the best out of it and get to my desired weight.  The kids too will need to cut out more processed and junk foods from their diet as it will certainly be beneficial to them in the long run.

If you do have any recommendations on healthy eating plans for kids/adults  do drop me an e-mail or leave me a comment below .

Last year I wrote down 10 things that I was looking forward to and in my 2014 reflection post  I managed  cross off many on that least and hope to do the same at the end of this year.

Here are some of the things that  I am looking forward to in 2015

  1. Completing all my challenges . ( Healthy Eating, Weight lost and Declutter)
  2. Improving my photography  skills.
  3. Learn more dishes to try out with the kids.
  4. Brush up on my French and Japanese
  5. Going  on a couple trip with R.
  6. The kids being able to speak Mandarin and Cantonese more fluently.
  7. Engage the kids more in bible reading and learning about values.
  8. Do more crafts and outdoor activities with the kids.

What resolutions have you set for 2015?
