Monitor Lizards and Turtles
Small Monitor Lizard
While on holidays in Bintan two weeks back we spotted some Monitor Lizards during our nature walk around the hotel premise. I went on a guided nature tour with R as part of our weekend getaway package we had at Angsana Bintan Resort & Spa at Bintan Island, Indonesia. It has been a while since we last went for a walk around and it felt nice being out in nature.
Another shot of the same small Monitor Lizard
I had to zoom in all the way to get a clear shot of this reptile. I didn’t dare go too close as I was afraid that it would scamper away and disappear into the pond if it detected our presence.
A larger Monitor Lizard we spotted at the end of our walk
I wanted to get a better shot of this reptile but it hurried off before I could get closer.
The resorts attempt at conservation- breeding sea turtles
As part of our walk we were taken to the Turtle hatchery they had at the resort and saw two different endangered species which they were trying to preserve. – The Green Turtle and the Hawksbill Turtle.
Green Turtles
Hawksbill Turtle
It was feeding time at the conservation lab and these hatchlings were enjoying their lunch.
It was really great to see that the hotel was so into preserving these endangered species and doing it’s part in their conservation.
What animals/insects have you seen
around lately?

How cool to see a monitor lizard in the wild. Glad you stayed far enough away not to get bit. (They do bite, don’t they?). The turtles are cool.

I only think of one thing whenever I see turtles. Super Junior’s Yesung. He had one turtle pet. 🙂

@Theresa,
Ooh…I didn’t know he has a pet turtle. I’ve been only looking at CNBlue page more regularly and I know many of their members have dogs 🙂 Did you watch the Incheon Games opening?

Hari OM
I love critters of all varieties… one of the things I have had to accept being back in Blighty is the severe lack of interesting insects, lizards, …all the way up to birds… I adore sheep and cattle, but oh for a bit more exotica! YAM xx

Very nice pictures, there are so many animals that we can spend day after day featuring different animals and they can all make some great shots. You got it 🙂

Hey Girlfriend, how you doing? Lizards!!! EEK! Those critters are just oversized bugs ewwwwww!!! AND I HATE BUGS, and I hate snakes more cuz they’re bigger. Now turtles I will tolerate, and my daughter wanted on really bad, but alas they’re too expensive around here the cheapest one I found was fifty bucks and that was for an old guy! bwahahaha

I am not really into reptiles and amphibians. Turtles, yes. Lizards. I am afraid of them. The creature I fear most is a frog. Between snakes and frogs, I fear frogs more.

you sure had a powerful zoom lens to capture that reptile from afar.

The turtles are so cute! I will always fear lizards, on the other hand. I haven’t seen any animals lately other than the wandering cats and dogs, and birds.
