Writer’s Workshop: Purchased for $500

My New Macro Lens
If you were given $500 for only one purchase how would you spend it ? I recently had the chance to personally experience this kind of buying experience when I went on a shopping spree.
I purchased an item which I had be deliberating on for a really long time. Something that I had my eye on but wasn’t sure if I could afford it back then.
Tamron AF 90mm f/2.8 Di SP AF/MF 1:1 Macro Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras for $500(SG$ 520) is what I decided on in the end. I had been looking through the various photography sites and magazines reading up the reviews on both Tamron and Canon lenses. The fixed focal lens from Canon (Marco 100) has discontinued support so the Tamron lens was a better buy and really value for money.
I’ve always loved taking photos of flowers and doing macro shots. With a macro lens it would certainly help me take better pictures and improve on my photography skills.
Purple Bloom
The blooms that I bought this week to try out the new lens on. I can see an immediate difference in the type of shot taken with the camera.
Chicken Salad
It is so much easier to take better food pictures with it too. Doesn’t the salad look extra juicy shot with the lens?
What would you have bought for $500?
Would you invest it on yourself or your kids?

🙂 Hi Dominique ~~ This is a nice camera that you found. I am jealous. The two pictures here are nice quality close ups.
After washing my camera I buying another Sony, this on a $199 2012 Model on a close out price of $107 from Amazon [dot] com. I need a pocket camera as I carry it all the time. Now if the men around here would only start carrying purses then I could carry a larger camera.
BTW, I am not sure if my new blogging follower, Scudds Harrison, is related to you. Her blogs are hard to find.

@Jim,
Thanks for popping by this week. Hope that your new camera will give you good shots too. Nope don’t know your new blogging follower but I’m guessing that she/he doesn’t blog on a blogger platform too. I’ve left links to this blog directly in your comments so it’s easier for you to visit as my blogger profile goes to a rather “unused” blog since I’m no longer blogging on that platform.

Isn’t it fun to be able to make a large purchase that is just something you wanted? Not like having to replace a broken dishwasher or have repairs done on your car. Just for fun. Your picks are great! 🙂

Oh wow your pics are great — I am not an informed photographer but I know people who swear by the Tamron lenses so I think you’ll love it!!! Glad you did something great for yourself. When I answered this prompt, I guess I didn’t focus on my kids exactly but I would love to pay my daughter’s summer dance intensive fee without going into more debt. Dance instruction is not cheap!!

I’d spend it happily on us 5. We’re 5, hubby, me , 3 kids. With myself having the largest share. LOL! But it might go to the birthdays I’ve been planning since forever. I’ll buy all the punchers and scrapbook paper I want.

I would LOVE to spend $500 on the very same thing…but right now I would have to spend it on something for our basement renovation project…maybe some beautiful tile for our new bathroom 🙂

I have no idea. I would love to have $500 supply of my favorite food. that would make me happiest. I would also like a gift certificate to my favorite restaurant…same thing as food again.
I would spend it on me and family and food serves both.

Well now that I have seen YOUR pictures I think it is money well spent. Now I want a lens like that too! 🙂

Wow…is it okay that I’m a bit jealous? giggle. Wonderful purchase my friend. Thank you for sharing at the Thursday Favorite Things blog hop xo P.S. the camera and lens are wonderful but it is your eye as a photographer that catches the beauty xo
March 16, 2013 @ 8:34 am
I will buy the camera first and will save for the tamron lens too.

I think you did invest in your kids with this purchase!
When Momma is happy and has passion and purpose, the kids see wonderful examples!
And, yes, that salad looks scrumptious!
It must be time for lunch!
Thank you for linking.
