Having Fun at the Gems of IndoChina at Changi Airport

[ Media Invite]

Having been cooped up in the house due to the recent haze the kids were very happy when we visited Changi Airport today. Nope, we were not scooting off again on another holiday but were checking out the Gems of IndoChina display over at Terminal 3.

The boys were attracted by the 10 course obstacle course and immediately asked to go on it when we arrived at the display area.

After filling up the necessary forms the boys were suited up and couldn’t wait to have a go on the obstacle course.  The boys have been on obstacle courses before so it wasn’t something that new to them. However  as they haven’t been able to go out and play due to the haze, they welcomed the physical activity with open arms.

Monkey boy was the first one to go around the circuit. It wasn’t really challenging for him as he has been on the adult circuit while we were on holiday in Phuket. He cleared the course easily and couldn’t wait for a 2nd and 3rd round the course.

Doggie boy also enjoyed himself going around the course. He was more confident this time on the obstacle course as compared to the last time he tried it in Phuket. I guess the lower height of this course made him feel more confident of completing it. He too went  for three rounds around the course.

While the boys were going around the course Tiger girl was occupied taking pictures of her brothers and the surrounding with my compact camera.

We were given a goodie bag which had some Laos coffee, a key chain and instant chocolate inside. I’ll certainly be trying out the instant chocolate while I will leave it to R to try out the coffee.

Besides the obstacle course there was a interactive exhibition area which features photography, artifacts, travel information and fun facts about Laos.

There was a replica of the Golden Pagoda( the national symbol of Laos) on display.  The actual pagodas in Laos must really look spectacular.

While going through the exhibit the kids were given bookmarks which they could emboss at the two major exhibits. They were happy to fill up the bookmark as they were given a prize for completing the bookmarks.

Visitors to the exhibition were given a visual treat about The Plain of Jars where the stone jars appear in clusters in the landscape of the Xieng Khouang plateau. It certainly is an unusual phenomena which cannot be explained.

It was really hilarious seeing Monkey boy posing behind this cut out of traditional Laotian outfits.  The kids really had fun at the exhibit and it was a fun and educational afternoon for them.

In a Submarine under the Sea

The submarine

The submarine

Have you ever thought about traveling in a submarine? It was a really cool experience for Tiger girl and me when we got to travel in one during our recent trip to Jeju island, Korea.  We went on the Seogwipo Submarine (서귀포잠수함)  and it was really interesting experience.

We had to take a ferry boat out to from Seogwipo Port to  Munseom  where we boarded the submarine to begin our tour.

The submarine was not really that big but it could fit about 30+ passengers inside. There were port holes on both sides of the submarine so we could look out and see everything that was around us.

The water was quite murky and it wasn’t a really clear day as it has been raining the whole day. However we still managed to see the fishes and corals outside the window.

The submarine started to descend slowly  once the doors were all sealed and we could see the depth which we were at from the display panel on the top of the driver’s area.  It wasn’t scary and Tiger girl was thrilled to see that the submarine was moving and we were descending into the depths of the ocean.

While descending there was a diver show as part of our submarine tour.. He came around during the first stop that the submarine had to bring the fishes which swam outside the port hole.

The fishes were not as colourful as those that we saw in the aquarium last month. However it was fascinating to see so many fishes swimming pass suddenly.

As we descended way into the depths of the ocean we managed to see some corals up close.  It looks really different from the corals we saw at the aquarium. It wasn’t as vibrant and there were lesser varieties of corals to be seen.

Have you traveled in a submarine before?
