Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck

The boys and I were very excited when Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck, Book 8 by Jeff Kinney came in the mail this week. The kids have been anxiously waiting for the release of the 8th book in the series of Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. We have read a couple of Diary of a Wimpy Kid books and absolutely loved them.

In this 8th Edition,  Greg Heffley’s best friend Rowley Jefferson ditches him for a girl. Greg has to find a new friend to hang out with in school and this was certainly a mammoth task for him. Greg felt very lost without Rowley around and missed all the crazy things that they used to do together.  Now that Rowley’s girlfriend has taken over his spot and 100% of his attention things were not the same.

Greg tried hard to find alternative people to hang out with but it was not the same. All of them- being the photographer for the school year book, befriending the lonely boy that his mom had tried to pair him up with , fell short of his expectation as a replacement for Rowley.

In the end it was the best friends made up and were all buddy buddy again when  Rowley finally broke up with his girlfriend.

My thoughts

I really enjoyed reading this books and the boys too love it. The illustrations together with the daily account of the days happening were really hilarious and engaging.  Through reading the book I could relate to the feelings that Greg felt as I too have a dysfunctional extended family.  The book was certainly really addictive and I couldn’t put it down once I started reading it.

It certainly would make a good Christmas present for a kid this year.

You can get a copy of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck, Book 8 from Amazon.

Playing with Chopsticks

It can be quite trying keeping kids occupied while waiting for food to be served in a restaurant. The few minutes waiting for the food can seem like eternity to a young kid. They get all fidgety  after awhile and  will request for gadgets to occupy them. If gadgets are not available the kids would use whatever is on the table to play with.

Chopsticks are the kids chosen item out of all the different cutlery to play with while waiting for food to be served.

Some ways they are used.

– as drum sticks hitting on plates and bowls and even the table for create “music”

– as props for photo taking

– to form different alphabets with

– as a makeshift pile of pick up sticks
