Writer’s Workshop: My Perfect Choice
It has been 16 years since I first laid my eyes on you. It all started in Melbourne where we first met as University students studying in the same university. You were my senior and we were studying in the same faculty. Both of us were living on campus but in different dormitories.
Back then at 18 yrs old I was a first year Commerce student while he was in 2nd year. I was never that good in accounts and consulted him several times regarding homework assignments in accounting. Thinking back it was a right decision that I didn’t pursue a career in accounting as he did or I will be seriously hating seeing numbers all around me.
I can’t remember who was the person who introduced us to each other however it all started from the first semester I was on campus. It was easy to talk to R and we shared many passions in computer gaming and food. We had the same circle of friends and met up very often.
During one of the weekends we decided to hire a car and travel along the Great Ocean Road with a few friends of us. It was a 5 hour drive from the campus to the 12 Apostles and back. During the long drive there with some guy friends and R I was asked by Nick if I was going to marry R and how certain I was about him. I was quite baffled by that question as R and I had only been dating for awhile and certainly wasn’t expecting this type of question to be coming from a guy friend.
It didn’t take me long to answer him. I confidently told Nick “Yes, I’m sure he is the one“. I’ve never regretted my decision. It has been 11 yrs of marriage for us since 2001 and I’m sure there are many more years to come.
How did you know when your partner was the one?
How has it been for you since then?

I like your “P” word, Dominique. 🙂 I did one right ahead of you at Mr. Linky’s 34, while yours was 35.
I knew Mrs. Jim was for me when I could see that she liked my children. She has been an excellent loving step mom to them.
We have our differences but so far we have been married for 39 years. It is beginning to look like it might last.

Stopping in from Mama Kat’s today…
I always enjoy hearing how other people met their Mr or Ms TheRightOne… I met mine at a roller skating rink in high school…but was he TheOne… back then he told my mother he would marry me some day and … he was right and it only took 13 years for his dream to come true… not so sure he thinks of it that way any more… after 6 kids and nearly 20 years together it’s probably more like a nightmare most days! But I am his nightmare and he is mine and that’s all that really matters, right?
Oh… I knew he was TheOne when after years of anonymously leaving a single red rose on my car… no matter where I worked or who I was romantically involved with… he never forgot… and one year I just knew who it was and a lightbulb went on over my head – just like in a cartoon- and i knew that I had missed out on the greatest guy. But lucky for me he ended up back in my life and it turned out that I hadn’t missed out after all… I had just been saving the best for last.

DH asked me out on a date when I was 14. We went bowling. A few days later, he called me up & we had a long conversation. I got to know him quite well in that one conversation and that’s the point when I felt God had directed our hearts together. We dated 2.5 years before getting married shortly after he graduated college. I went on to complete my education. That’s been 33 years ago and we are more in love than ever. Those first years were the learning ones of our marriage, but adjusted and grew. Over time, we grew closer and closer, as husband & wife while becoming each other’s forever best friend. I count myself happy & blessed!
