Writer’s Workshop: Not Quite A Baby Now
Yesterday we celebrated Tiger girl’s 2nd birthday. I baked a cake and decorated it with her favourite cartoon characters- Pororo, Hello Kitty and Angry Bird.
Time really passes so fast. My little girl is no longer a helpless baby but an active toddler with her own mind. It was only last year when we celebrated her 1st birthday and now she is 2!!
The world has opened up much more to her at 2 yrs old as compared to when she was 1. She is more aware of her surroundings and knows what she wants. It is not as easy to hoodwink her as compared to before as she has hone her questioning and reasoning skills a lot in the past year.
She now knows that cartoon characters live in TV land and that real penguins do not talk or fly airplanes like Pororo does. She is also able to verbalize and carry out a two way conversation with me. Gone are the days where I could only carry out 1 way conversations and had to do every little thing for her. She knows does everything independently and even offers to help around the house with her elder brothers.
Even though she still refers to herself as a “baby” at certain times her maturity and behaviour is far from one.
How have your kids changed this past year?
What has been most significant difference?

Such cute pictures! I think the biggest difference is how much more independent I am as they get older. The biggest milestone this year is that I left my family and went on a solo trip to NYC for 5 days. I waited for my baby to turn 3 before I even entertained the idea of leaving them overnight.

I am not yet a mom but I have a 15-month old nephew who can now walk. So, he’ll be talking like your daughter.
Good job on the cake!

Your daughter looks so happy with her cake. Well, one big change this year is my oldest went off to college. I’m still reeling from that. One started middle school and loves it. And my baby is maturing and not giving me fits when I ask him to do homework. All great changes from a year ago.

So sweet, my youngest still likes to be called the baby too and I hope that doesn’t change for a long time.

What a sweetie — and it only gets better!
My kids are adults but I am watching my 6 year old granddaughter change every day! She has started 1st grade this year and is so grown up! Reading everything in sight is the biggest change I notice — from sounding out words last year to just easily reading them this year is phenomenal!

My kids are all grown up, but I love watching the progress my grandchildren make…
How cute she is!

the biggest difference is when my daughter started talking…it all changed from there.
when your daughter reaches five years old, that is the best time – they can be themselves, yet learning, and showing their personality…some caring, nurturing – well, with Trinity anyways.

Hi Dominique, visiting over from Katherine’s Blog Hop 🙂 Tiger girl looks so sweet, she has changed a lot over the year by just looking at the photo’s. My daughter has just turned 10 and she has changed so much in the last year. I can already see the teenage years as her attitude has changed and she tends to ‘play’ a lot less now…
I can have really good conversations with here now which I really enjoy 🙂
Thanks for sharing, happy birthday to tiger girl!

Our toddler granddaughter, KP, turned three this July. Watch out, Dominique, we call it the ‘Terrible Two’s.’
KP loves pool parties and decided to have her own a couple of days ago. She was alone in the shower, Dad was outside the bathroom door, and sat over the drain so that the shower was filling up with water. Then she proceeded to have her pool party. It took two parents and a sister to towel up the water as it came out the shower door.
We laughed and laughed. Those three didn’t laugh where KP could see.

@Jim,
I’m well equipped to dealing with the terrible twos as have handled her 2 elder brothers when they were this age and they were seriously a handful back then. Thanks for sharing about your granddaughter. My kids love the pool too.

Happy Birthday to your sweetness!
She is just adorable!
1. They have grown up so much and my daughter who is five and just beginning school have become so responsible. I’m kinda shocked at this!
2. My son seems to be surer of how he feels and what he wants.
Lovely photos.
Happy weekend!

My son is a teenager, so he changes in growing taller, less talkative, and like to spend time in his room!

Your pictures are precious. I love the happy look on Tiger Girl’s face, and that cake, by the way, looks delicious!
The biggest change with my kids this year has been my 10 1/2 year daughter now has a cell phone and can ride her bike around town with her friends, go to the grocery store or go out to lunch on her own now. I make her call me at each stop (reason for the cell phone). She has been very responsible so far, which is why I can continue to give her this freedom. It really is amazing how much they mature from the age of 8 to 10 years old.

Two years old?
Oh man! Time flies!
She will always be your baby, though.
I think of my 30 something year old kids like that…
Although they aren’t always appreciative that I feel that way!
Thanks for quite a sweet and poignant link today.
Hugs to your ‘baby’.
And…
A+
