{Photo Story}- Rock Climbing
This week the boys were treated to 2 hour session @ The Rock school. It was the first time that they are experiencing rock climbing and they were extremely excited.
They started off the session with an indoor climbing attempt after being brief about the safety aspects to take note of.
As usual the little girl refused to be left out of any activities that her brothers were participating in. You can see her trying to crawl over to the rock wall. Faintz!!
It took Doggie boy about 10 minutes to complete the course . They had to get from one wall to the other at the other side of the room.
My Questions this week
1) What sports do you feel is a “Must” for kids to try out?
2) How do you let you kids get a balance of both indoor and outdoor activities?

I never participated in sports when I was a kid so I didn’t want to make my kids do it if they didn’t want to. But, all four of our kids have played baseball/softball and loved it. It’s been really a great experience – for us as parents its a blast to watch them play and the kids have enjoyed being part of a team sport. Now, just our youngest two boys still play and they are 11 and 13. They’ve grown up playing at the same park with basically the same group of kids so it’s also been a nice community experience.

I wish there was an indoor rock-climbing facility here for kids. I’m sure my daughter would love it! As much as I can, I encourage her to play outdoors, and not spend hours in front of the computer or TV.

That looks so fun! My boys would have loved that when they were little! They both played soccer, basketball and baseball when they were little. My older one is just not into sports so he quit playing everything around 8, but the younger one loves it all and he has settled on basketball as his main sport.

I think skiing and snowboarding should be on that list;)

Does kind of depend on where you live, but our kids always did soccer. Anything outdoors is always best, but in winter ~ swimming at an indoor pool at the Y or sports club was always a favorite!

What fun. I climbed as a teen and it is a wonderful way to stay fit.

I don’t think any sport is a must, but every child should have the chance. Getting involved with the kids when they try things is the best way to expose them.

I think the child can choose something that they feel they’d love to do in regards to sports. My son did/is doing soccer, but I know he also loves baseball, so if I find a team, I’ll let him play, but it’s one or the other. Don’t want him overwhelmed.
I think I have a good balance for my kids in regards to indoor and outdoor play, but it all depends on the weather 🙂
Glad you had fun with your children!

Wow! Looks like fun. My boys have never experienced “rock climbing” like that! I guess since my two are going to be tall, I am glad they are both into basketball.
In the mornings, they have been working out with my husband inside – treadmill, rowing machine and push-ups. My husband moved the basket-ball net down to the end of our driveway so they get the chance to shot a few hoops outside before getting on the bus!

Thanks for stopping by, and I don’t have any kids at home any longer, but when my grandbabies come over they color or watch cartoons inside, and according to the weather I have a park right across the street from my home. It works out well that’s of course if NaNee doesn’t take them SHOPPINGGGGGGGGGG! ~snicker~

Since I’m not really an outdoor gal my kids usually do more indoor type activities . . . martial arts, piano, dance, etc.

My children all started out playing soccer at a very young age throughout the year, so I think they got the balance for indoor and outdoor activities.

That looks like so much FUN! I used to play soccer in high school – I’m hoping Princess Nagger or Little Dude will show interest in something at some point. For now I’m happy they like to run around like crazy people in the backyard. 😉

I always played catch with the kids and encouraged them to play whatever sports they were interested in as I feel that they not only assist our children in being physically active, but aid them in maintaining a healthy lifestyle and help to teach them necessary social skills. We also played card games and board games. I liked scrabble to help them with their vocabulary and dominoes their math.
