Admiring the view at Tam Shui

The scene at Dam Shui

During the last trip to Taiwan we visited the port city of Tam Shui.   We set off for the place after breakfast and had a casual walk along  Tamsui Old Street and waterfront (淡水老街) before the lunchtime crowd came.

The waterfront

The waterfront

Walking along the waterfront reminded me of being in Stanley , Hong kong as they too had a really lovely waterfront to walk along.

It was really nice to see both the hills and the water together at the same place.

Street Art

Street Art

While walking along the streets at Dan Shui we came across this art work embedded in a sidewalk.

The church across the street

It was really interested to see how art resembled the actual building with both directly opposite each other.  I didn’t get to go inside the church as there was a mass on.

A monument along the street

A monument of Dr Mackay  along the street

There is a lot of focus on culture and history in the area as we saw many statues of famous people while walking along the streets.  This particular one was of Dr Mackay who was  the first foreign missionary to be commissioned by the Canada Presbyterian Church (predecessor of both the Presbyterian Church in Canada and the United Church of Canada), arriving in Taiwan on New Year’s Eve, 31 December 1871.

A colorful building

I could see beautiful art work everywhere we went. This particular corner store had the windows and walls all painted with lovely portraits.

Fort San Domingo

Built by the Spaniard back in 1644 this building now houses a museum which gives one an insight to how life was back then in the olden days.

The famous Lover's Bridge

The famous Lover’s Bridge

This is one of the main attractions in Dam Shui- The Lover’s Bridge.

We didn’t walk along the bridge as it was rather hot and it didn’t seem that romantic as it was nearly afternoon when we were there. Maybe if we were there in the evening it would be a different story.

The ferry we took back to the Train station

The ferry we took back to the Train station

We had the option of taking the bus or this ferry back to the train station. For about  NT$60 one could take a 20 min ferry back to Tamshui waterfront.

It was great viewing the place from the ferry as it gave me another perspective of the place that we visited.

Herping Island Park (和平島公園) , Keelong- Taiwan

Looking out to sea at Herping Island Park

Looking out to sea at Herping Island Park

During the Valentines Day holiday trip  R and I drove up to  Keelong City  基隆市. I’ve always love visiting the seaside and experience the sea breeze blowing  in my face.

We drove from Shifen Waterfall Park  to Keelong as it was on the way. The journey didn’t take too long and we manage to find the place following the GPS in the car.

The rock formations

The rock formations

The last time I saw unusual  rock formations was in Jeju island  where we saw the Jusangjeolli Cliffs.  These formations were spread out over a bigger area as compared to those cliffs.

This particular rock formation required some vivid imagination on the part of the viewer to see how “turtle” it looked like.

A pavilion we saw while following the trail

The pavilion made a good resting spot to sit and admire the scenery. We didn’t really spend much time there when we were there as I was more keen to view the whole area.

We only stopped long enough to snap some pictures and a wefie.

A man parasailing

A man parasailing

While admiring the scenery we saw  this parasailer moving near the rocks. He had a motor attached to the back of his  set up and was able to control how high or low he flew.  I would love to try parasailing one day but not sure if I will do solo like  this parasailer.

Another view of the seaside

Another view of the seaside

There were many  unusual rock formations around and people ventured out onto the rock formation for a closer look. R and I however kept to the path as I didn’t want slip while being on the rock as the ground was rather wet.

Another shot of the same rock formation. This time with my HP.

Have you seen rock formations at the seaside lately?
