Weekend Reflections: Trappings of Modern Motherhood

The bench

There are many things in this modern age which one can’t live without. Now in the 21st century everyone (including me) are highly dependable on our different gadgets to function. It we were living in the olden ages I really wonder if we would be able to do every as efficiently without our aids.

As a Mom in the 21st century I rely on the following.

  1. A smart phone. A mobile is not just for making and receiving calls nowadays. It has to be able to have calendar with reminder functions, budgeting and other apps to check e-mail, Facebook and Instagram.
  2. Caffeine. Not coffee but green tea for me. It does help to keep my current weight lost attempt in check and boost my level of energy.
  3. Kitchen appliances. To be able to cook a 3 to 5 course meal within an hour I rely heavily on the stove, steamer, oven, blender and airfryer to cook dinner.
  4. A virtual showcase ( aka blog) to keep everyone in the family updated on the kids growth and mark down all the different milestones and memorable moments that we experience.
  5. Google Docs- to manage the different work schedules for the  various blogging campaigns that I have.
  6. GOD – to give me the strength to carry out all the tasks that has to be done within the day.
  7. Planning on the go-  troubleshooting any problem which may suddenly arise during the course of the day

How do you deal with Modern Motherhood?

Weekend Reflection: Life of a Mom

The road home

The road home

Every day starts off similar.

Wake up, wake the kids up if they are not yet up.

Get changed and make sure that all the kids get changed.

Make breakfast or get the older ones to make breakfast for the younger siblings.

Tackle  challenge #1 – Tiger girl

If she is in a good mood it can be a breeze to get her ready for school or else it can be a real nightmare if she wakes up on the wrong side of bed that morning.

These few weeks she has been hesitant to go to school in the morning. I blame it on the holidays that we had been having the past month. Every time she sees both her brothers home she knows that it must be a holiday. It really takes quite a while to coax her out of the house and ensure that she goes to school punctually.

Tackle Challenge #2

Doggie boy is in the afternoon session so in the morning I try to maximize the time with him by giving him 1-to-1 tuition and help with his homework during the before school hours.  While he is doing his table work I would be monitoring him while at the same time preparing his lunch or doing the housework.

After  he goes off to school it’s ME time for me to catch up on my online work/ reading and just time out to chill before Monkey boy returns from school.

Tackling Challenge #3

Afternoons are for tutoring Monkey boy 1-to-1 and overseeing that he completed his school homework. If Monkey boy has CCA on that day  we would have to head off shortly after he returns to ferry him back to school for Badminton.

Before dinner it is chilling out time for the kids as they get their TV/iPAD time then. It is their down time while dinner if being prepared.

Dinner preparation starts after Tiger girl returns home from school. On certain days Monkey boy helps out in the kitchen as part of his holistic learning experience. At 9 year old he is old enough to learn how to prepare his own meals and help out in dinner preparation at home.

After dinner the kids and I have an hour table study/ homework time before story time. On certain nights I do not get through story time with each one of them however I do ensure that we do read at least a short story each night.

How does your day look like?
