Learning to Paint at Hearts Studio

Sunflower painting in progress

Sunflower painting in progress

Painting and Art has never been something which I have been good at. In fact I recently talked about that I hated art as a kid in a post earlier on last week.  However I have been doing something different last week when I participated in one of the activities that was held in celebration of Singapore Mom Bloggers turning one this year.

SingaporeMomBloggers
The kids have tried their hands painting at Hearts Studio last year when they were invited for a trial session. This time it was my turn to try out painting flowers.

We were each given a palette, brush and bucket of water. The mediums of choice that day were pastels for doing the outline and acrylic paint to use for the painting.

We were taught by the wonderfully animated and talented Teacher Guz. He gave us a brief history behind the Sunflower painting by Vincent Van Gogh which were to be painting that morning. He also showed us various works by Van Gogh and taught us the different brush techniques which we were to be applying in our painting.

It took me about two hours to finish up my rendition of the Sunflower by Van Gogh.  Using acrylic paint is really much different from using water color or other mediums. The mixing of colors are best done on the canvas  and it took some time to get use to how the colors were blended.  It took some trial and error before I manage to figure out how to color in the petals and the flower.

It was a really fun session for me and I do see myself trying out painting again if I get another chance.

If you are interested in learning more about the classes held at HeART Studio do check out their class schedules and programs that they have for kids of different ages besides classes for adults. We will be heading back there again during the June holidays as the boys will be attending the art camp for kids 7-12 years old.

Weekend Reflections: Dealing with Feelings

Black and white Composition of Grills

Black and white Composition of Grills

This week has been a real roller coaster for me with feelings of euphoria and despair.  I am happy to see that the boys are doing well in school and have achieve good results this term.  I’m also glad that R managed to get time off his work  to schedule in a trip to Korea to celebrate our 12th wedding anniversary.

All these positive and happy feelings nearly got wiped out when I got the result of the latest Google Page Ranking update. The blog has taken a hit and had lost it’s PR ranking. Just when things are picking up on the blog with more incoming campaigns and an increase in traffic such a heavy blow had to be dealt.

I was really shocked when I received the news and that dreaded e-mail in my inbox informing me about unnatural links on the site. I really have no idea what caused it and it really stressed me out trying to figure out which were the links that were causing the problem and if they were links from my side out or people linking it.  I went about searching for information on the steps that I should be to rectify the problem on my end.

Through that episode I’ve learned that one must be vigilant about the ever changing rules set by Google and that it doesn’t help fretting over such things. I should and have to put more faith in GOD and believe that he will give me the strength to ride through any crisis that comes my way.
