P52- Week 2 {Made with Love}
This week the theme for P52 is “made with love”. I’m not really into crafts so decided to focus on the dishes/bakes that I have done this week.
Cantonese Egg Tart. This is my first attempt making this snack. Doggie boy loves eating egg tart and he was simply thrilled to see the egg tart waiting for him to eat after school. I still have to work on getting the right temperature for the bake as the custard didn’t turn out as well as I wanted it to.
Breaded chicken with rice, vegetables and fishcake. This was my attempt in making a bento like arrangement for the boys. I used my cookie cutters to make the flowers and birds to add to their bowls. They were happily gobbling down their flowers and birds and even asked for more flowers to be added to their bowls the next time for dinner.

Did you get the carrot from supermarket or wet market? The carrots I bought from supermarket is too thin to be cut with cookie cutter.
Did you cut the carrot with cookie cutter when the carrot is raw or cooked?
January 13, 2012 @ 1:32 pm
@Shook, I bought them from the supermarkets.. if you go to shop n safe or those supermarkets who sell loose carrots they are normally bigger. The carrots are sliced before boiling and cut to shape after being boiled.

My mom always get carrots in packet from NTUC or Giant. Too thin to cut with cookie cutter. I use knift to cut them when raw
I am into making bento too but with dish in rice

my little girl just saw your photo and said “mum, did you make egg tarts?!?!?!”, I fear I have let her down, and will need to go to Chin Mee Chin for her favourite ones! p.s. you can get shape cutters in Daiso too, I saw some cute ones there yesterday ;0)
January 13, 2012 @ 3:35 pm
@Little Macaroon, where is Chin Mee Chin? Haven’t really heard about this brand. Thanks for the info on Daiso..I’m not allowed to buy any more shape cutters as we have more the 50 pcs at home..not including the sandwich cutters which I YET to use ( stored for 2yrs already)!!

Dominique, Chin Mee Chin is in Katong and it’s AMAZING, you must promise me you’ll go! (some details here http://www.makansutra.com/foodreviews/listing.php?id=93) The most wonderful kaya set I have ever had (over and over again!) in a really atmospheric old shop. (and good egg tarts too!)

Beautiful creations! I’d like to have some fun with photography this year. Guess I should look for some challenges too.

What a brilliant idea with the carrot flowers – may I ask – did you cut the carrot before or after cooking them. Such an inviting first photo.
January 13, 2012 @ 8:15 pm
I cut the carrot into slices before boiling it. After it has been cooked then I used the cutter on the slices.
January 13, 2012 @ 5:49 pm
I love those carrots!

I love egg tarts. They are my absolute favorite and so far, the best I’ve tried are the ones from Hong Kong!
January 13, 2012 @ 11:46 pm
@Anne,
Hong Kong has one of the best egg tarts I strongly agree!!.. I try to eat egg tarts then when we go back to HongKong to visit the family.
January 13, 2012 @ 11:53 pm
We have egg tarts in the Philippines but they’re from Lord Stowe’s. Tthe one I had in Hong Kong is still the best. I wish I could go back there just for the egg tarts.

I have never heard of egg tarts,
nor even thought of cutting veggies with cookie cutters.
Your kids are blessed to have a creative mom!
