March whizzed pass in a flash. The kids are back in school as term 2 has started. It is a more intense study term for them as they are facing mid year examinations at the end of this term.

I’m also back in school as the course that I enrolled in has started and it’s back to hitting the books and acquiring new knowledge which will help advance my career.  It feels strange being on the other side of the classroom as I have been  in the teacher’s role for the past 20 years.  It’s a whole new learning experience for me.  As a mature student now  I can say I understand more about the dynamics of a classroom than I did in my early years as a teacher.

Even though my schedule is much tighter now I still carve up time for my weekly mom- daughter date once a week. Tiger girl looks forward to this bonding time that she has with me and the yummy treats that come along with it.

I find that it is really important to create memories for the kids which they can look back on when they are older.

I believe in being fair to all my kids so the boys too get their mommy- son bonding dates. Their choice of comfort food is different from their sister. Doggie boy and I went on an ice-cream date at Bugis.  I initially wanted him to try the Monster Popcorn ice-cream that was sold at the shopping mall but he decided on an Oreo Slurry from McDonalds instead.

I find that 1-1 attention with each kid is essential in  building up their self esteem and helps in their emotional development. It helps  increase their confidence hundredfold when they know that the are able to get 100% of my attention without their siblings around.

Although it is important to spend time with the kids I too treasure my personal time without them.  It is my space to recharge myself by having uninterrupted time to plan my schedule, reflect on my week and analyse how far I have progress along in the various areas of my life.
