Writer’s Workshop: Turning 37 this August

Last year I celebrated my birthday with the kids and we had Mooncake as a birthday cake. This year I had a different type of celebration.

We decided on taking the kids cycling at the park as  they haven’t been to the park in a long time. This time Tiger girl is able to join us cycling and everyone had a rented bicycle each to pedal on.

R flew in for the weekend to spend time with me and the kids. We were able to  spend some couple time together and did what we haven’t had chance to do for a long time- watching a movie together.

We watched Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation at  a newly opened cinema in Clementi.  Watching movies in the neighbourhood area is certainly nice.  There were  ample seats for selection and we  were able to get good  seats for the movie less then 30 min prior to the screening of the show on a Saturday afternoon.

The latest installment of the Mission Impossible show pales in comparison to the previous installments of the series. Both R and me found the story line rather weak and much too violent for my liking.  ( It was certainly not a show I would like the kids to see.)

Korean BBQ is something which I enjoy eating and I had the chance to savor  the BBQ meats with R over the weekend.

It was a busy birthday weekend for me as besides shuttling the kids around for their weekend classes R and I attended a NLP workshop  and learned more about how one’s mind works and how powerful a tool it is.

It is all in the head. What you perceive does affect your outlook of live and how you conduct yourself. Having a growth mindset is certainly liberating and the way to go if one wants to have a balanced life with continuous growth.

NLP is certainly a subject which I will be looking into when I get the time to do so.

At 37 I find that I am not focused then I was last year .Even though I have more on my plate at the moment I’m happier and more contented with how life is now.

How did you celebrate your birthday this year?

  1. Happy belated birthday! I keep trying to remember how we celebrated my birthday last year and I am coming up blank. This happens all too often as my birthday is Christmas Eve so it tends to get overshadowed by the larger holiday. I’m sure my family spoiled me rotten and cooked me something wonderful but we didn’t do anything big.

  2. Happy belated birthday! We were on vacation this year, so I celebrated mine at the beach (with a cake that I picked out at the grocery store). It was a mellow, laid back birthday because I’m trying to ignore the number these days!

  3. Sounds like an enjoyable birthday! You are the same age as my daughter, who just had twins. Boy, does she have her hands full these days.

As for me, I celebrated my 63rd birthday as I always do. We took our adult kids and went out to a dinner at my favorite spot.

    =)
