Veganish: The Omnivore’s Guide to Plant-Based Cooking

Veganish by Mielle Chénier-Cowan Rose

Veganish: The Omnivore’s Guide to Plant-Based Cooking byMielle Chénier-Cowan Rose is more then a cook book which introduces various recipes to the reader.  It is a focus on healthy living which incorporates the uses of more vegetables within the dishes that you make while showing you that it is not impossible to  healthy vegan meals that are made from scratch.

In the book there is explanation of the different sources of nutrition- animal and plant, how to choose quality ingredients and the different methods of cooking besides sharing various recipes.

For certain recipes there are even omnivorous variations or alternative variations for certain ingredients if you wish to have a different texture of color for the dish you are making.

The explanations inside the book are simple enough for a beginning cook  and I also learned quite a bit about the different cooking techniques which can be used with different foods.

Mielle herself  believes that food heals—body, mind and spirit—and she strives to integrate the sentiments of the animal rights movement with the realization that some animal-based foods are actually an important element of her family’s diet.

My thoughts

I have been looking at ways to increase my repertoire of vegan dishes to cook for the family and really love the wide selection of breakfast, soups, sauces and dips which can be easily replicated.

My only grip is that some of the ingredients used in the recipes are not readily available here or very costly. I will have to look for more pocket friendly alternatives instead.
