Top 10 Highlights of Navy@Vivo Invite
The Navy’s Intrepid Warship
Last Friday we were invited to view the Intrepid warship at Vivo City. It was the first time that the kids and I were going on board such a ship and everyone was really excited.
1. This was the first ship we boarded which had a helicopter on board.
The Apache helicopter
This helicopter was sent out for survey missions and also to inflict massive damage to enemy warships.
A navy officer who was conducting the tour
2. It was interesting to know that the ship had been in the Gulf for more then 100 days on a Navy exercise and they have yet to be really involved in an all out war.
Watching a video
3. The kids and I watched a video of a live firing exercise and saw the cannons and missiles in action .
The gym on board the ship
4. Keeping healthy and fit is important and the regulars on board the ship work out in this gym here during their free time.
Torpedos
5. The “Big Guns” on board the ship which can reach 47km/hr when it is launched.

At the bridge of the ship
6. The kids had fun toying with the controls at the bridge. You can even see Tiger girl “hard at work” trying to operate the station she was seated at. Luckily they had controls disabled prior to opening up the ship as it could have been quite disastrous if the kids suddenly activated the engines.
The boats on board the ship
7. There were not 2 but 3 speedboats on board the Navy ship. I could imagine how cool it would be when they launch these boats into the water to chase after pirates which they come across on the high seas.
Walkway inside the ship
8. The pathways inside the ship were rather narrow but everything was neatly arranged and stored away.

The officers mess
The kids had to climb down the steep ladders just to get to the room and you can guess who was the most eager out of my 3 kids to climb the ladders.
Navy officers in their ceremonial uniforms
9. We managed to see the officers in their ceremonial uniforms as they prepare for the flag lowering ceremony that is held at dusk.

Tiger girl being treated by the first aid team
10. I couldn’t get a clear picture of the ceremony as there was a mishap on deck. Tiger girl tripped over one of the embedded lights on the deck and scrapped her knee.
playing the bugle
The flag at the bow of the ship
I only managed to capture these shots as the deck was overly crowded with photo enthusiast and I didn’t want to jostle with the crowd.
Have you been onboard a navy ship before?

It’s great that kids get to experience being in a Navy ship. At least they’ll be inform about it at a very young age.

The navy ships that I’ve gone on are those when I’m overseas. I recalled one being used in WW2, but can’t remember the name of it. Just remembered thinking to myself how harsh the living conditions must have been then.
