Guns & Roses on a Monday

Monkey boy had been asking for a NERF gun for the past few month. I have resisted letting the kids buy toy guns for the longest time. I strongly feel that it is a toy that advocates violence and has no educational value. Just like those action figures of superman, Ben 10 and other cartoon characters which most little boys adore having a toy gun can just be a passing obsession for them. They would be better off without this toy as it would be potentially dangerous if they got shot in the eye or face even though the bullets are made of foam.
However this time I relented and allowed him to get one. Monkey boy offered to use his savings to purchase his own gun and get an additional one for his brother so both of them can play together. Taking into account his generosity towards his brother was commendable and seeing that he has been putting in effort in getting a Distinction for his Grade 2 piano exam we allowed him to purchase one. He also promised that he would be very careful in using it and teach his brother how to handle it properly so they will not injure each other with it.
The boys too shared their guns with their sister and the three of them had great fun running after each other and playing together.
Being able to have the gun was a great motivational aim for him as his best friends had a gun each and he really wanted one so that he could play together with them during play dates which they had arranged at each others houses.
The kids having fun “gun fight” in the park with their dad.
The guns are being kept under lock during the week and the kids only have access to them over the weekend. I guess having a toy to loo forward to playing with on the weekend is a good motivational tool to spur him to be diligent and on his best behaviour for the rest of the week.
What motivates your kids?
Sharing one of my favourite bands from my childhood. Guns & Roses.

The biggest motivation for my daughter is being number one. That’s how we get her out of the house or finish her meal. But thankfully, she’s not a loser either 🙂

I share the same sentiment with you with regards to toy gun and the cartoon characters you mentioned. But I agree with your move in this case.
What motivates my elder boy? Gadgets especially the i gadgets which I am not a game to use them to motivate him

Someone else picked this song today. How interesting is that? Our kids always loved playing with water guns. The problem was when they brought them in the house. Every now and then someone would shoot theirs making a mess. Needless to say, I was not such a happy mom when that happened. Now, I miss that sort of thing. Funny how your perspective changes. Enjoy these years with yours because they are fleeting! Thanks for dancing with us on Monday’s Music Moves me!

I have one of my boys totally into guns. He wants to move to a state that lets you have almost any kind of gun. He is self educated about safety, and all sorts of different fire arms. The song choice is a perfect choice. Have a great week!

Something about boys/kids and guns eh.
I had to get the kids the water ones to squirt water.
And really even if you don’t buy one they use sticks and their fingers!
Glad they are so caring for each other.
You are a wonderful mommy, keeping them accountable.
Thanks for sharing with us today!
Just able to access my blog again from the hack.
Have a great week!
