Dear Santa- An Open Letter

Christmas is just around the corner.  Feeling rather nostalgic I decided to take part in Mama Kat’s Writing Workshop

I am using the prompt- An Open Letter to Santa.

Dear Santa ,

It has been an extremely long time since I written to you. This year I’m writing to you on behalf of the boys who are still a bit young to craft their own letter to you.

Ryan and Roy are both crazy about Thomas the Train Engines and could certainly do with a movable play table . It will certainly give them the space  for them to set up their tracks like the Island of Sodor. Having a  movable platform that would could ascend and descend into the ceiling with a flick of a switch.  There are many benefits for the boys and me with this special set up.

  1. They get to play with all the favourite trains together and there will be sufficient storage for all.
  2. It beats having to set up and clear their trains and tracks on a daily basis. With a flick of the switch their Island disappears and the room remains neat!!
  3. It would make a great centerpiece in our hall and keep the kids occupied when I am cooking dinner or busy with work.

If that is not possible or beyond your budget due to the current economic crisis tickets to Thomasland would be handy too.

Lots of love,

Mummy Dominique

I have been tackling quite a bit these Tuesdays.

This week I have managed to

1. Stick to my schedule which I have planned for the week.

2. Be on task with the freelance writing assignments that I have picked up over the weekend.

3. Following the daily schedule which I have set for myself which is for laundry, cooking and writing to be done before the kids return from school.

4. Plan out the meals that will be cooked from Monday to Friday and purchase the required ingredients.

Teaching Toddlers to write- (part 5) A wrap up

This week I have been talking about learning sentence structure, using of visuals, story sequencing and graphic organisers. Today I will be focusing on competing the essay that Ryan and I started on the beach.

[Picture used to draw in the conversation]

In Part 4 Ryan came out with this storyline

I asked him the question

” When did we go to the beach? Are we at the beach now?”

He answered ” Saturday. No we are at home now.”

Ryan does know the concept of time but he is not that good at reading the time on a clock.

He is able to distinguish between today, yesterday and tomorrow.

” Have we gone to the beach? Did you play and enjoy yourself there?

He answered” Yes”.

I explained to him what we are doing are all based on a time line

I explained to him that certain words will change when we are talking about this that had already happened (in the past) as compared to the present (now) Ie: Wake(present) – woke(past)

We corrected the two paragraphs that he came up with to change the tenses.

Ryan’s final composition after all the editing and help.

After seeing all the steps it is now your turn to try out writing with your kid(s). Have fun in the process. :)
