Writer’s Workshop- Dearest Baby

Dearest Baby ,

Today marks your 8th month old birthday.  It’s a joy waking up seeing your eyes sparkle and you showing me your toothless grin in the morning. You are a really happy-go-lucky baby and really enjoy having your mama around to cater to your needs 24/7.

Everyone loves your chubby cheeks  and Michelin Tyre body. These are the trademarks which you share with your brothers when they were around the same age. Your sweet smile and laughter are really infectious. You really know how to brighten up everyone’s day.

The way you call out “Mummy” in your cute little voice really melts my heart. It erases all the tiredness and physical exhaustion I face on a daily basis  carrying you around while going about with the daily chores.

You are Daddy’s little princess and you really know how to tug as his heart strings with your bewitching eyes and shouting in joy  “Papa” as he steps through the main door after a day at work.

I love watching how you are so curious about the little things around you and how excited you get when you suddenly find that you are able to manipulate the toy that you have been playing with.

Watching you grow and meet the various milestone is really satisfying and I won’t trade it for any job in the world.

Lots of love,

Mummy.

I’ve Got a Crush on You

I remember back then when I was in university many of my friends were pairing up  and going out as couples. It was a fun time and new experience for me  building relationships with those of the opposite gender.  Coming from an all girls school I had limited chances interacting with guys  who I’m not related to or under close supervision by my family members.

Staying on campus gave me the opportunity to get to know many different guys. There was a particular guy who really caught my eye.

He wasn’t those type of guy which could be labeled under tall, dark and charming or a playboy. He was those which you were certain your parents would approve if you ever brought him back home to meet them. The stable type.

Being of medium built he was  slightly taller then me.  Bespectacled and clean shaven he looked a bit bookish at the first glance. He was slightly tan and had good skin. What drew my attention to him was that he could cook and that the food actually tasted nice.  He also was really comfortable to be with and we got along well.

It didn’t matter to me that he didn’t have a flashy car or designer clothes. He was focused on getting good grades in the Uni instead of just partying away.  He was easy to talk to and we shared common interests in watching action flicks and computer gaming.

We were in different classes as he was a 2nd year student while I was just into my first semester on campus. We normally met during dinner time in the communal canteen and when we went out on group outings hosted by the overseas students association.  On occasions I would bump into him at the computer labs and strike up conversations with him.

What happened to him?

I guess that those who know me should know by now… we got married.  10 years on and 3 kids later I still am very much in love with him.
