Writer’s Workshop: Best Food Place
A branch of the Ship Restaurant which we visited in Penang.
This branch was actually located inside a SHIP!!
We used to go to The Ship Restaurant when I was a kid. I remember back then I was still in school we had our meals at The Ship quite often during the weekends. I love the steaks and other western cuisine which they had at the restaurant.
I love the steaks and the rich onion soup. The deco inside the restaurant was really different from most places which I have been. It was also a real treat to have steak and eat out in a fine dining restaurant.
In the Ship restaurant there were ship bells and actual size steering wheels which one could turn. There were many different nautical charts and signs plastered all over the restaurant. The waiters and waitresses were also dressed in nautically inspired uniforms. It feels like you have been transported to another world while you dine at that place.
Unfortunately we do not really go to the Ship to dine nowadays as the kids are not really into steak and heavy 3-4 course meals for lunch/dinner. They rather go and have their favourite sushi or udon at the Japanese restaurant.

Years ago…1989 we vacationed in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. I recall us driving to Portland, Maine just so we could eat dinner in restaurant which was actually a ship. That was like a two hour drive south of Boothbay Harbor. Our oldest daughter wasn’t even a year old at the time. Many things from that vacation seems blurred. I guess it was due to my exhaustion, but this restaurant stands out in my mind as being a classy place. It would be nice to visit there again. =D Thanks for sharing your ‘B’ post!

That sounds like a really neat restaurant, especially the one in an actual ship…funny how eating habits have changed from generation to generation….Sushi…I owuld have had no clue what that even was when I was a kid! LOL!

We used to go to a really yummy place in Santa Monica called The Tick Tock. I can still taste their cinnamon rolls, and they made a shrimp cocktail that was to die for.
In fact, all their food was delish!

I grew up in the 1950’s and 60’s and there weren’t all the chain restaurants that you see today. In fact, I remember the first McDonald’s I visited. My sister was old enough to drive so it was probably 1961 or 1962 and we would go there once in a while. I think burgers were twenty five cents and fries were fifteen. My parents took us out to eat often, but the places were all family owned and none really stick out in my mind as being places I enjoyed. I guess my preference was going to a NJ diner and having diner food.

It had to be good! If you notice, they left the “T” out in restaurant. 🙂 It’s horrible that I notice these things, but all good places have their quirks. I loved a place called “Bullwinkle’s” as a kid, I’m pretty sure it’s like Chuck-e-Cheese nowadays. I remember Rocky and Bullwinkle from the cartoon would skate your pizza out to your table. FREAKING MINDBLOWING to a 3/4 year old.

The spelling Restoran is Malay spelling not english where it should be ” restaurant” The photo was of their branch in Penang, Malaysia. It must have been really fun to have Rock and Bullwinkle deliver pizza to your table.. that’s cool!!

Reminds me of a place we used to go to in Hong Kong whenever I was there. OK, I’m sure it’s not even CLOSE to anything like this restaurant. It’s just that it’s on a boat …. you actually had to take a ferry out to eat there.

What a good question.
As a child, the only place we ever went was the NCO club on base. I remember their scrambled eggs…I thought they were wonderful.
I wasn’t much of a gourmet then.
But happily I was definitely a lot thinner!
