A Mother’s Day Tribute to My Mum
My Mum
My Mum is a fellow educator who has be teaching for the past 40+ yrs. A dedicated teacher who joined the service when she was 18 yrs old and who is still teaching today at 64 yrs old. Peranakan by heritage and Teochew by descent she has been enjoying the best of both the Malay and Chinese culture. She can only trace her ancestry from her Dad’s side as my grandmother was adopted and we are unable to trace her parentage. 3rd out of seven siblings she comes from a rather large Catholic family who speaks mainly English at home.
My mum is a fellow K Drama lover. She does chase after Lee Min Ho and Hyun Bin like me. She watches them on her PC and loves soaking up all the various love stories which have been showing on Channel U during prime time. She’s a IT savvy grandmother of three who is active on Facebook, Skype and Linked In connecting with the family and friends. If I can’t find her via her phone I’ll drop her an e-mail or FB message and she will reply within a day or two. It is great that she is open to new technology and is modern in her ways.
She loves line dancing and traveling abroad. The kids and I are really privileged to be able to travel abroad with her yearly to many different places. So far we have been to Bali, Korea, Phuket , Hong Kong and various parts of Malaysia together. The kids are really lucky to have such a doting grandmother who really spoil them to the max with frequent shopping trips and treats.
Being a fellow educator she strongly supports continuous education and further studies. She didn’t had the chance to pursue a degree when she was young as the family finances were extremely tight back then with seven kids. My Mum did complete her degree in her 50s while putting me through University in Australia. Talk about never to late to pursue your dreams!!
If grandma can do it so can you!!
My mum has been one of my main motivators and supporter. Even though we sometimes don’t see eye to eye we still have mutual respect for each other.
How is your mum like?
Sharing one of my mum’s favourite song- Mama Mia by Abba

Wow! Is that your Mom’s recent pic? If yes, then I would say she doesn’t look her age. She looks younger. She’s really admirable with all her traits you’ve mentioned and you’re very lucky to have her as a Mom. 🙂

@Krizza,
Nope that’s not a recent picture as it was taken a few years back. The more recent pictures of her can be seen in last months vacation pictures here on the blog. Yes I’m really lucky:)

Nice tribute to your mum Dominique. Thanks for allowing us to get to know her. My two cents … make sure that you are not honoring your mum only one day a year!

Aww, this was a lovely tribute to your mom! My own mom died when I was ten (which is almost twenty years ago now – scary!), so I always love reading about people’s relationships with their mothers. I’ve been really lucky to gain a wonderful mother-in-law, and I hope she and I will grow very close over the years. Great post! 🙂

Wow your mom is so techie 🙂 Well, my mom just got retired from her work of more than 40 years and she’s living with us. She’s just a little weak now because of the mild Parkinson’s disease. But she’s still strong for us. She had sacrificed a lot just to send us all to school. Like your mom, she’s our strong supporter and she has been very understanding to us.

Beautiful post Dominique! I give your mother a lot of credit for completing her degree at age 40! Lots of other people would have given up before they even tried!

Now I know where you get your good looks from. She’s beautiful and her wisdom also shines through in her eyes. I love love love that dress & what a great color for her. Why what a great color period. I saw this movie it was really cute. I’d go see it again! Your Mom likes this song? She’s got fun taste in music I see! What a wonderful tribute to her! Great Post today my friend! I can tell you’re very proud of your Mum. I called my Mother-in-law that name to make the difference with my Mom & so my hubby would know who I was talking about. My MIL use to travel around in Europe a lot & one year she brought me back a gold pinky ring that says: “MUM”! It’s awesome. I’ll have to take a pick of it and show you! Thanks for joining us & sharing your “BEAUTIFUL MUM”! She really is so youthful looking she could pass for your sister for sure! 🙂

April 16, 2013 @ 9:36 am
You can really see how much you love your mom by your tribute. You are a lovely person and she sounds wonderful too.
April 16, 2013 @ 10:45 am
Your mum doesn’t reveal here right age. She looks young for her age.
I salute her since she was a teacher. I have lots of respect to teachers. Here in our country they are considered as over-worked but underpaid professions.
April 16, 2013 @ 3:08 pm
she is such an accomplished person. truly an inspiration for you.
April 17, 2013 @ 1:56 am
Your mom is more social media savvy than me! Great for her, you, and your kids that she is so active, though, and young at heart. My own mom is a hardworking, realistic woman who worries way too much, but has done well for herself. Very proud of her!

Such a beautiful tribute to your beautiful mom!
It is such a blessing to have your mom involved in your life.
Mine lives all the way across the ocean. I pray one day we’ll live close enough to walk over to her house.
Thanks for sharing the music too.
Have a blessed week!
