SOC: Sharing the Love with Cake

This week one of my online buddies Regina of MummyMoo birthday and I baked a Tiger cake for her. It has been awhile since I’ve been baking and making fondant figurines/cakes as during the past few months my focus was on learning how to bake bread and improving my baking skills.
It was really a great project to be baking a cake which I could decide on the design and have free reign over it. Normally when I do fondant cakes I have to acceed to the requests of the boys and their current craves. This time around I decided to create a heart shaped chocolate coated maderia cake with handbags, shoes and a pink tiger figurine.
Regina is born in the year of the tiger and I felt that it was fitting that I made a Tiger Girl for her. Shopping is one of her favourite activities and thus the inspiration for different color and types of handbags and shoes.
How would you celebrate your fellow girlfriend’s birthday?

I am really not fond of fondant but I like the idea of a chocolate cake and fondant figurines. good job on the cake!

@Kat,
I too do not like a “full” fondant cake as it’s really too sweet to eat. Most of the time I end up peeling away the fondant layer hence the fondant figurines on the cake instead.

I went through a stage when I baked everyone’s cake, decorated with fondant. Now? Not so much, this whole blogging thing takes time, you see… My best friend and I have been celebrating our respective birthdays, the last five or so years, by taking each other to the spa. The same spa. Luckily our birthdays are about 6 months apart. So, this way, we get to go to the spa twice a year and not feel guilty about it because on the first one, we’re getting treated for our birthday, and on the second, we’re treating our best friend for her birthday. Win-win!
