Tiger girl has been thinking of getting herself a watch since I got mine in March this year. She has seen that it was possible to do much more then just read the time from a smart watch and she was intrigued by it’s functions.
I had initially wanted to get her a smart phone like her brothers so that I am able to contact her as she had been requesting for one since last year. I had my reservations on how practical if would be and if she too would face the possibility of being addicted to the smart phone with its countless apps that could be downloaded.
It was really cool when she was offered a Jumpy Plus Smart Watch to test out. Now I’m able to contact her and she can contact me when necessary and I can track where she is via my phone.
My Initial Observation ( Upon Unboxing It)
The Jumpy Plus watch looks a bit big for her hand and Tiger girl had some difficulty putting it on by herself . The watch has a strap similar to the Apple watch so one had to push the metal buckle through the appropriate slot to secure me. I wonder over time if the rubber will harden or the slot widen as through frequent use making it less then secure and easy to slip off the wrist. I personally prefer the traditional watch buckle that secures the watch in place however this option is not available with this smartwatch.
Designed for kids age 4-12 year olds this funky looking smart watch has some very cool functions and allows for kids to customize it based on their preferences.
The first thing that Tiger girl did when she got the watch was to customised the watch face. As she is still not very apt in reading time she opted for a digital clock interface. I also set a personal alarm for her to remind her that bedtime is at 9.30pm.
Seeing the pet dog within the Jumpy Watch reminded me of the Tamagochi which I use to have as a teenager. This one however was different as you can decide on the different type of food to feed the puppy – Canned dog food, a bowl of doggy snacks or a bone. You can also supposedly change the hat, clothes and eye wear for the dog . However Tiger girl and I have yet to figure out how to do that. We have held on and drag the clothing item, double tapped on it etc but there has been no reaction. We do not see clothes being “moved” and placed on the dog like when it was being fed. ( I think only the programmer would be able explain how to cloth the dog properly)
This is the key feature of the Jumpy Plus watch being able to connect with others via the use of the watch . One has to insert a nano sim card with data plan into the watch and sync it up with a phone before this function is activated.
Through the use of the Jumpy Plus App which is available for both Iphone and Android one can preset up to 5 numbers which the child can contact and receive calls from.
If Tiger girl chooses she can call me or her brothers . If it is not convenient to talk she can also send short text messages to us instead.
To prevent Tiger girl from playing with the phone in school I can set it to School Mode when she is in school. When the watch is set in this mode she can only tell time and make emergency calls. It prevent her from being distracted and allows her to focus on her lessons.
This is one of the cutest Pedometer interface that I have seen. Tiger girl loves this function and it does encourage her to be more active and walk around more.
This function comes in handy to distract /occupy Tiger girl when we are out waiting for meals. There are some pre-set games within it, online stories/ songs within the watch to capture their attention temporarily.
