It is never too young to introduce a child to the world of Science and discovery.

Here are some recommended sites for exploring various topics in science with your toddlers/preschoolers.

Discovery Kids
Have fun with Science through the games, quizzes and puzzles on this website.

Peep and the Big Wide World
This website features activities that you can do with your kids indoor/outdoors with minimal materials. There are also some simple interactive games which you child can try out on their own and movies to watch.
BrainPop JR
This is a more factual website which give information on the different science topic. It is a subscription based site but there is free content/movies on it which you can view. I do recommend trying out their free trial on their site to see if the content is useful for your kids.
The Science Monster
A factual site about the earth and our solar system.
The Human Anatomy Online
Graphics and explanations of the various systems that make up the human body.
Time for Kids
A magazine layout site which features resources for K1- grade 2 kids based on different themes. There are printable quizzes and graphic organizers which you can use in learning different scientific concepts.

3D Map of the human body.

Talking about Respect (Part 2)

Showing respect means :- Be tolerant of differences • Use good manners, not bad language • Be considerate of the feelings of others • Don’t threaten, hit or hurt anyone • Deal peacefully with anger, insults and disagreements

In my last post on Respect I received an interested comment on how it was most important to instill self respect in yourself before you are able to respect others. I agreed with the commenter’s view to an extent but in order for a child to have a clear idea of Self-Respect they will need to be taught or shown how to respect others.

These are some books which are recommended reading on the topic of Respect.

I recently managed to borrow The Grouchy Ladybug by Eric Carle.

This book talks about this bad tempered Ladybug who thinks it is that it is better then everyone. It goes all out to try to pick fights with insects and animals that are bigger then it. As it moves about throughout the day children explore the concepts of time, size ,shape and manners.

A Quest for Respect with the Grouchy Ladybug is something that you can carry out with your school going kids. There are some activities at that site which help Grade 1 and 2 kids learn about the meaning of Respect.

Besides using the Grouchy Ladybug to teach on respects , Kiddyhouse has a series of lessons plans where you can teach your kids on the concept of time and on insects.
