BELIEBER: Fame, Faith and the Heart of Justin Bieber

Belieber!: Faith, Fame, and the Heart of Justin Bieber by Catherine Falsani is the first book I have read about the teenage sensation Justin Bieber.

I have heard about Justin from my ex-students who I taught at music class in school.   The songs  Baby and Never Say Never were constantly sung by the students and they seem to never get tired of singing them.  He has a nice singing voice an a great persona for a teenager.

Catheleen’s book on  the Canadian superstar, Justin Bieber is more of an autobiography based on a Christian perspective. It documents Justin life from birth to a unwed single mother and how her faith has helped shaped her son’s values and dreams.

Being born into a musical family Justin has had music all around him. He to like his dad self taught himself the piano and guitar. He was always interested in music and through the youtube videos which his mom posted on him singing he was “discovered” at age 13.  It all took off from there and his success as a singer has been phenomenal.

A majority part of the book documents how Justin broke into the music scene and how his mom has been his pillar of strength in his faith. She has been guiding him faithfully in the teaching of GOD. By introducing her son into her.  There is many quotations from the bible and reported incidents on how by relying on faith Justin and his mum came to decisions that helped in his growth of his music career.

Justin Bieber believes in paying -it -forward by supporting a handful of charities now that he has “made it” as a successful singer. I only know a handful of successful singers who actually do that.

I personally found the book rather draggy with lots of fluff from tweets mentioned. I can see how great his mom’s faith influenced him and his decision. There seems to be too much focus on his mom whereby there should be more on him. I feel that this book would be a better read if  there was more  mentioned about  how his faith has influenced his life and music from his own perspective rather then his mom’s.

It’s All In The Moves- FreakyPets

It’s All in the Moves by Galya Torres is the latest  digital book featuring the likes of Puff Puff one of the FreakyPets.

The story is starts off with  Puff Puff raving to  show his parents his latest move the Spin-Song-Jump 2.0 and failing badly on his first attempt. With the help of his father he learned how to use his cranky feelings and channel it to perfect his routine.  In the end Puff Puff not only succeeded but successfully shared his routine with his friends and all of them went on to have a great performance for their parents.

In the  interactive book Galya  you can choose to either read the book by yourself or have it read to you. I viewed the book with my boys and we chose the option of having the book read out to you. I like how the words get highlighted as the narrator reads out the passage. It helps younger readers focus on the book and learn how to follow the text.

We found the story really captivating and I like the message of ” don’t give up and try .. you will succeed” that the author was trying to convey. Many a times I find that my boys too give up too easily and with persistence I’m sure they would be able to accomplish the task that they had set out to do.

I personally find the pets quirky but adorable and wouldn’t mind having a FreakyPet for myself if they were available here in Singapore.
