ArtSense Free Play – A Review

art sense

A few weeks ago the kids and I were invited to a free play session at Art Sense by Marina, a mom of one and graduate from Lasalle  Collage of The Arts in Visual Arts. The kids were excited as they haven’t been to an art free play session before and were keen to know what was in store for them.

Nestled in a cluster of  colonial buildings along Tanglin Road the place was quite difficult to find even though we drove there as it was stated as Phoenix Park at the main entrance. We  went pass the entrance and had to u-turn back as it was the first time we were visiting the place. There weren’t many clear directions on the buildings to find the art studio.  Luckily it didn’t take us to long to find the place.

play doh

The session started of with creating items out of play doh. I personally am not a fan of play doh as it can get very messy and hard to clean up at home. However the boys are welcome to have the fill of play doh while we are out. They wanted to make Aeroplanes out of play doh but were not very good at it. In the end they delegated the task to Daddy who is better at creating Aeroplanes  out of play doh.

Doggie boy and daddy

Doggie boy was busy playing with the toy train that they had there while waiting for Daddy to finish his creations.

Art Sense Studio

The art studio had a very cosy set up. There were art work done by kids pasted up on the walls on both sides. The furnishings in the studio were very colourful. The size of the room was ideal for a small group of 4-6 students.

Projects

Marina, the founder of Art Sense Studio gave the boys a tour of her studio and guided them in their creations. Monkey boy wanted to create an airport while Doggie boy wanted to do a simper version as compared to his brother

Monkey Boy's Airport.

Monkey boy was not able to finish his art work within the 2 hours at the free play session so he brought it home to complete.

My thoughts

Having an art free play session is an interesting concept and my kids really enjoyed themselves at the session. However the kids started losing interest after an hour or so. The boys are not really into ART so it’s hard  to maintain their interest in doing art work. They were more interested in listening to KPOP on Marina’s laptop then doing ART when we were there at the session.

At $10 for a 2 hour free play session the prices are affordable for most parents.  However it would be great if there is a cafe there so that parents could adjourn for a snack  after the play session.

It would be great if the area from the carpark to the building was sheltered so that one need not suffer from the elements of nature while going from the car to the building.

If you are interested you can drop by Art Sense for a free play session.

I love eating desserts. Cakes, puddings are the first thing I would order instead of the main course when we are having our meals out during the weekends. Cake shops and Bakeries are places which I frequent when we go out shopping. I love browsing through the cakes on display admiring the cakes on display.

At home I like to bake cakes and cookies for the kids as treats for them. However sometimes it can be difficult to find time to bake with the kids taking up most of my time daily.  To get around time constrains  for making  desserts I have been getting creative with the recipes that I have seen in my cook books or found online.

I found it extremely easy to use COOL WHIP Whipped Topping in my bakes. It makes decorating the cakes a breeze and the dessert. I  can have a  presentable in half the time it originally takes to decorate. COOL WHIP makes it s easier to place the fruits and other decorations onto the cake without having them dropping off during the transportation of the cake.

Although I sometimes don’t have time to bake I still do use COOL WHIP as it makes the dessert taste really yummy. I like the smooth texture of the whip and it’s creaminess.  You can add it to so many different desserts to jazz it up.  You can add it even to salads and soups to make them taste better.

Here is a easy  dessert snack which you can whip up within 3 minutes.

dessert

Fruity Bite Size Snack

Ingredients

  •  Blueberries
  • Strawberries
  •  2 Oz COOL WHIP
  • Digestive biscuits

Instructions

  1. Place a digestive biscuit on a plate
  2. Add some COOL WHIP
  3. Add your strawberries and blueberries
  4. Add another layer by repeating steps 1-3.

It’s really simple and even my kids are able to fix up this snack on their own.  There are only four ingredients needed and the steps are easy to follow.  The boys loved making and eating this fruity bite size snack and finished eating their snack within minutes!! They even requested to have the same snack the next day for dessert after dinner.
