Weekend Reflection- Mother and child bond

WeekendReflections

From Dominique’s Desk(c) 2009

This week has been kinda awful for me. Ryan getting his arm fractured in school came as a shock to me. It really turned our schedule upside down with me having to apply for Childcare leave to care for him.

With kids around their welfare  automatically becomes first priority over work and other pressing issues. Every little thing that happens to them is magnified especially when you know that they are suffering and there is none of little which you can do alleviate their pain.

Every blood chilling scream that Ryan gave while the doctors and nurses was changing his cast dressing really felt like a stake through my heart. It really sent cringes down my spine as I had to stand and watch him struggling and screaming while they bandaged him. Whatever words I used to soothe him didn’t work and at that moment he really felt that everyone in the room was out to “harm” him.

The procedure took all of 15 minutes but it seemed like eternity to him.  After he left the clinic he couldn’t wait to go home.

” Mummy I wanna go home NOW!! I hate this place it is so much better at home. Let’s go home”

Hearing him say that made me think of how Ryan associates home as a place which is warm and safe and somewhere he wishes to dwell. It was kinda of assuring for me that he appreciates  the environment what  his daddy and I have created to nurture him in.
