Teaching Phonics to toddlers

How to teach Phonics at home? This question has been raised by many parents of toddlers that I know.

Before you decide on the which phonics activity to start with do look at the Phonic Skills chart to assess the stage of readiness your child is at.

There are many ways- online and offline where you can assist your child in learning phonics.

Online

Starfall.com- is the best website I know that teaches children the phonetic pronouncation of the letters of the alphabets, there is also focus on consonant blending. There are also short stories for reading there.

Reading n Phonics- There is a shooting game where you shoot down the correct alphabet which is being ‘targeted’

Scholastic has a rhyming & matching word game which you can try with your child when they are able to identify the basic sounds of words.

Offline

Gigglepotz.com has printable/downloadable phonic cards. There are also PDF phonetic storybooks which you can print out and read with your child.

Here are some products which I have listed in my A*store which you can consider.

    Ain’t study itself getting tougher on the kids? Everyone in my generation never remember doing Phonics! But we are still able to read till today…Hhmmmm…

    But I knew that it was a MUST for kids nowadays, started my 4 year-old on it 5 months ago…bought a CD with the workbook and the little guy is still enjoying it.

    This is just terrific information! I was able to read at the newspaper to my father at the age of 3 1/2 due to phonetically learning from my mother. I applaud you for including this information on your terrific sight! Much love, xoxo-pm

    @Angeline,
    Yeah.Phonics is strongly focused on today. I started my elder boy on it since he was 2yrs old and now at 4yrs old he can read independently and figure out the spelling of words by listening to it’s phonetic sounds. I intend to do so for my younger son too in a few months time.

    @PoshMama,
    Thanks for the positive comments. Nice to see you at my site :)
