Highlights of May 2015

I have been really busy this month as I’ve been extremely engaged in the new venture that I am in. Besides being a teacher and a blogger I’ve recently became a Mary Kay Beauty consultant and am learning the ropes in direct selling.

It is a learning experience for me as I step out of my comfort zone and start to learn to interact more with people. Being an introvert I find it difficult opening up and talking to strangers.  I get tongue tied at times trying to  find the appropriate words to use.  It can be stressful at times and it is something that I am trying to overcome.

May has been a month of learning and reflection for me as I focused on helping the boys prepare for the SA1 exams.

Monkey boy studying

Monkey boy studying

Being in Primary 5 this year isn’t easy.  There is so many more things to learn and the expectation is certainly much higher then last year.

I’m halfway through my Bridging the GAP – P5 series as I’ve managed to cover how I bridge the gap in English . In the next few months I’ll cover how I teach Monkey boy in Maths and Science and move on to my greatest challenge so far- tutoring Doggie boy who is currently in Primary 3.

Light purple blooms

I managed to clear my backdated travel posts from my previous trip to Taiwan and showcases the flowers  that I photographed. I also  shared how we made our own anniversary rings this year at a jewelery making workshop that R and I attended.

The walkway at Gao Mei Wetlands

Taking a stroll along the wooden walkway at the Gao Mei Wetlands  was really romantic and I really enjoyed myself there soaking in the sight of the setting sun.

Making Thunder Tea

Making Thunder Tea

It was certainly an interesting experience making this traditional Hakka Tea.  Thunder tea  certainly requires many different ingredients and it tasted vastly different from the teas that I am used to drinking.

I had a fun time travelling back in time as part of the Time travelling blog train hosted by MadPyschMum- Madeline.  If I could have the opportunity I would certainly love to go back to my university days  when I was studying in Melbourne University.  I miss those carefree days. However looking at my life now I would certainly not have changed anything as I’m really grateful for being where I am now.

Grace for the Imperfect Mom

Grace for the Imperfect Mom

Being a Mom does make one cast doubts on oneself especially if things don’t seem to work out the way that we want. This book – Grace for the Imperfect Mom  was an excellent read that I had that reminded me that everything does happen for a reason and based on GOD’s timing and not mine.

Gao Mei Wetland(高美湿地) at Taichung, Taiwan

The setting sun

It was a magical evening for me at Gaomei Wetlands. Situated in  QingShui (清水) District of TaiChung (台中) it took about a 20 min drive from Tai Chung city.

It was extremely windy at the wetlands.  The wind turbines which were situated along a water break were  constantly turning and generating electricity.

R and I took a long slow walk out on the wooden walkway. The winds grew increasingly stronger as we ventured out towards the sea.

The wind made it extremely cold and I wished that I had taken my jacket along instead of leaving it in the car. My hands were icy cold after we returned from the walk.

Two dramatically different scenes unfolded before me while venturing out on the walkway. To the right I could see a sea of lush green grass which was vibrating in the wind.

On the left by stark contrast was the muddy flats of the wetland where if one looked carefully they would be able to spot the tiny inhabitants.

The one big claw crab

The one big claw  fiddler crab

The tiny inhabitants which I am referring to are the fiddler crabs.   They are really unusual as they have an extremely large claw while most crabs which I have seen have claws of the same size.

It was really interesting seeing these crabs scuttling along the wetland.  Do you know that only the males have the gigantic  cheliped (Claw).  He waves the “halberd” to attract the females and expel the other males. The female uses two tiny chelipeds to feed.

A wetland white bird

A wetland white bird- Crane perhaps??

Beside crabs we also saw this crane which seems to be fishing. It was  alone and kept lowering it’s head in the water periodically.

A flock of birds

I couldn’t get a better close up of this flock of birds as they were rather far away from the  walkway. They too seem to be looking for food.

There were many people who went down to walk in the mud at the wetlands. R and I gave it a miss as we didn’t bring slippers and I didn’t fancy sinking my feet into the squishy mud.

Capturing the sun and sea

Capturing the sun and sea

We waited to see the sun set and it touch the horizon but unfortunately we were unable to see that scene as  it was too cloudy that day.  The sun got covered by the clouds as it set.  Maybe another time if I do get to visit that place again.
