Quite an Extraordinary August

Shoe House

Shoe House

August was a real growth month for me. As I previously shared. I have been learning a lot about makeup . Since  joining Mary Kay 6 months ago I’ve expanded my knowledge about the different type of makeup and skincare products.  I’ve learned what is in the market and what is more suitable for my particular skin type and skin tone to enhance myself.

You can say that I am fully embracing the CHANGE – the word that I have chosen as my focus word for 2015.

In order to take care of others one must take care of oneself first.  If you are able to focus on yourself you will be able to focus on helping others too.

To be honest I never saw myself taking an interest in Makeup in the past.  You can say that a person’s changes as they age and are more willing to try things that they may not have considered in the past.

Circumstances and situations change and so do our priorities and financial situation.   It has been liberating to know that it is still possible to earn a decent income doing what I enjoy.

Having a work- family life balance is of utmost importance to me. Being free from the constrains of the corporate world while having enough time to be with the kids and perusing my passions is what I have always wanted since starting my family.

I’m blessed that I’ve been able to do so for the past few years and fortunate to have R support my decision.

Me again :)

Me again 🙂

Paying attention to your skin and taking care of yourself physically is of the utmost importance.  I only started taking very diligent care of how I look this year.

Tiger girl and me

Tiger girl and me Jan 2014- Aug 2014- Sept 2015

You can say that I’m loving how I look now much more  as compared to how I was last year. I feel more confident and have seen an improvement in my skin quality since I’ve started taking care of myself.

Some of the Mary Kay Products

An Order from one of my customers.

Many people around me have noticed my change and have been telling me that I am looking much better these few days. They too want an improvement in their appearance and it has given me the opportunity to share the beauty of Mary Kay and her products with them.

世界上没有丑女人,只有懒女人(There  is no ugly women only lazy women). This is a Chinese saying which  I do believe in. One has to work hard to achieve one’s goals.

My Goal Poster for 2015-2016

My Goal Poster for 2015-2016

The best way to keep focus is to make your own dream poster which is a visual reminder of what you are striving for.

From the picture above you can see that I’m striving to maintain my work- family life balance  with my main focus on the family and marriage. I’m working to be like Girl generation member in my poster. Good healthy looking skin, a trim figure and healthy hair.

Travelling and seeing other places is one of my passions and I’m fortunate to have been able to travel frequently despite my current schedule.

I’m looking forward to more travelling and even greater growth and chance as we move towards 2016

What have you learned in August?

Bridging the Gap- Modeling and Methods in Maths(Part 2)

there

Doing maths

Doing maths

Understanding Maths requires one to be able to analyse the question and choose the most appropriate method to solve the question. To be able to decide on which method  to use the child has to be able to  identify the crux of the  problem before he/she is able to slowly show the required workings to solve the problem.

Using the Model Method

From Primary 1 students are taught to draw models to solve Long Answer Questions. This is the  method that is “promoted” as it is supposedly the easiest method to explain how you can derive the answer. ( And NO you are not allowed to even use Algebra to explain yourself)

Question 1

Sammy and Gerald had an equal number of stamps at first. Sammy then gave away 20 of this stickers to his friend Winston, and Sammy Gerald bought another 12 stamps. In the end, Gerald had thrice as many stickers as Sammy. Find the number of stamps Sammy had at first.

Therefore 2 units 20 + 12

1 unit 32 2

1 unit → 16

Number of stamps Gerald had at first = 1 unit + 20

16 + 20

= 36

Gerald had 36 stamps at first.

If you notice the type of model drawn differs from the type of models drawn in lower primary.  It is more complex and you are comparing more then two different items involving multiple steps to solve the question.

Looking at a Pattern

Identifying the Pattern

Identifying the Pattern

How do you solve this problem?

Firstly you would need to identify the pattern.  Based on the diagram above you would notice that there are 3 different shapes – Square, Oval and Triangle.  The pattern repeats itself after the 3rd shape.

Step 1- Find out the number of “groups of 3” which are possible from 1- 77

77  3 = 25.66 ~ 25 times ( 25 R 2)

25x 3 = 75

The answer

The answer-

After calculating  you should get “Oval” as your answer.

It does take a lot of practice to be able to solve a mathematical question easily.   It’s fortunate that Maths is one of Monkey boy’s stronger subject and it doesn’t take him too much effort to understand the concepts which needs to be applied to the various questions.

How to you reinforce the learning of Maths for your kids?
