Ten Ways how she Makes Me Smile

Tiger girl

My little girl turns two this week. Time really passes very fast and she has matured a lot since we celebrated her 1st birthday last year. I’m really grateful to have her in our lives as she has brought lots of joy and sweet memories.

Here are 10 ways how she makes me smile.

  1. She runs to  hug me and calls out mummy each time she sees me when I fetch her from school.
  2. She shows joy in the simple things and says “thank you” to show her appreciation.
  3. She helps to keep the clothes and her things neatly without asking.
  4. She can play together with her brothers without fighting with them.
  5. She  has an infectious laugh and perks up your day with her innocent laughter.
  6. She shows her concern for her brothers by helping them in her little ways.
  7. She loves to keep in contact with her grandparents and gives them joy by calling and talking to  them on the phone or Skype almost daily.
  8. She loves to make funny faces and make me laugh.
  9. She  is diligent and tried her best to learn what is taught to her.
  10. She is eager to learn and able to follow instructions given.

Guns & Roses on a Monday

the boys and their guns

Monkey boy had been asking for a NERF gun for the past few month. I have resisted letting the kids buy toy guns for the longest time.  I strongly feel that it is a toy that advocates violence and has no educational value. Just like those action figures of superman, Ben 10 and other cartoon characters which most little boys adore having a toy gun can just be a passing obsession for them. They would be better off without this toy as it would be potentially dangerous if they got shot in the eye or face even though the bullets are made of foam.

However this time I relented  and allowed him to get one. Monkey boy offered to use his savings to purchase his own gun and get an additional one for his brother so both of them can play together. Taking into account his  generosity  towards his brother was commendable and seeing that he has been putting in effort in  getting a Distinction for his Grade 2 piano exam we allowed him to purchase one. He also promised that he would be very careful in using it and teach his brother how to handle it properly so they will not injure each other with it.

The boys too shared their guns with their sister and the three of them had great fun running after each other and playing together.

Being able to have the gun was a great motivational aim for him as his best friends had a gun each and he really wanted one so that he could play together with them during play dates which they had arranged at each others houses.

The guns are being kept under lock during the week and the kids only have access to them over the weekend.  I guess having  a toy to loo forward to playing with on the weekend is a good motivational tool to spur him to be diligent and on his best behaviour for the rest of the week.

What motivates your kids?
