Writer’s Workshop: Not Quite A Baby Now

Tiger girl

Yesterday we celebrated Tiger girl’s 2nd birthday. I baked a cake and decorated it with her favourite  cartoon characters- Pororo, Hello Kitty and Angry Bird.

Time really passes so fast. My little girl is no longer a helpless baby but an active toddler with her own mind. It was only last year when we celebrated her 1st birthday and now she is 2!!

Tiger girl's 1st birthday

The world has opened up much more to her at  2 yrs old as compared to when she was 1. She is more aware of her surroundings and knows what she wants. It is not as easy to hoodwink her as compared to before as she has hone her questioning and reasoning skills a lot in  the past year.

She now knows that cartoon characters live in TV land and that real penguins do not talk or fly airplanes  like Pororo does.  She is also able to verbalize and carry out a two way conversation with me. Gone are the days where I could only carry out 1 way conversations and had to do every little thing for her. She knows does everything independently and even offers to help around the house with her elder brothers.

Even though she still refers to herself as a “baby” at certain times her maturity and behaviour is far from one.

How have your kids changed this past year?

What has been most significant difference?

Mid Autumn Lanterns

The kids and me

Over the weekend we went to Central for lunch and were intrigued but the floats that were placed along the Singapore River.  The last time that I saw floats was when we were in Taiwan on holidays in  February when we visited the Lukang Lantern Festival.  The lanterns around the river were in the form of the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac

I’m sure the lanterns would look awesome when they are switched on at night. Unfortunately we were there around noon so we couldn’t view the lit lanterns. I love how  vivid the colours were on the lantern. The dog lantern looked really like Odie. I wanted Doggie boy to take a photo next to his zodiac animal but he wasn’t interested as it was extremely hot that afternoon. He sneaked off to wait in the shade while I continued snapping away.

The kids and their grandparents

We tried to get the kids lined up to take a photo with their grandparents but not all of them were keen on a shot.

Lantern display

Besides lanterns next to the riverbank I also spotted some floating on the river being tied to the sides.

Do the characters look familiar? I spotted the Monkey King ad Piggy from the Journey to the West on this float.

Do they have such displays for Mid Autumn Festival where you live?
