During our trip to Hong Kong last month. We brought the kids to the Hong Kong Science Museum. The boys have always been fascinated by space and it’s wonders.

They have learned about the solar system, the planets and gravity and it was a great opportunity for them to learn more about our planet.

I love that there were many different exhibits there on display and most of them were interactive so that the kids were able to get some hands on experience on how rockets were launched and even learned about how Science has evolved over the years.

Toxin Toxout Book cover

Toxin Toxout Book cover

Toxin Toxout: Getting Harmful Chemicals Out of Our Bodies and Our World by Bruce Lourie and Rick Smith is a really useful book for anyone who is looking to reduce the toxin levels in ones body. There are lots of toxins in the food we eat nowadays as many chemicals are used in the growth process of the food we consume.

Besides non- food items that we get in contact daily like the shampoo that we use to wash our hair, the plastic bags that we use to carry our purchases or even the skin care products that lather on may have toxins which we enter our bodies without our knowledge. How then can we remove these toxins from our body?

In the seven chapters in the book  Lourie and Smith share with their readers the different type of detoxification processes which they have  come across and the authenticity of each.

From examining the different types of commonly used chemicals in most products,  the health effects behind the exposure to the chemicals and the amount of each chemical within our bodies. There are so many different types of detox mechanism being promoted by the media. Some of them boasting high levels of effectiveness and cost quite a heavy penny to go through the whole course.

Before throwing down your money or embarking on the next fad it would be wise to read the compilation of the TOP 10 Toxin Toxout list by Lourie and Smith. There are certain effective ways of detoxing without breaking the bank.

My thoughts

It is certainly terrifying learning that there are so many different toxins that we come into contact on a daily basis.  Triclosan, DEP, Methyl paraben and SLS are found in many items that we use on a daily basis. These  chemicals can cause cancers and various disorders to our health and hamper our lives in the long run.

Going natural and trying to eat  “clean” foods are certainly what we all should aim to do.  Seeking green alternatives, eating more vegetables and less meat will also reduce our exposure to these harmful toxins.

I’ve implemented  a few of those listed under the author’s top 10 lists and will be trying to up our organic intake of fruits and vegetables where possible. It is interesting to learn that sweating it out and exercising also helps to reduce the toxin levels in our bodies. This alone gives me more determination to exercise regularly and get the harmful chemicals which are in my body out.
