Elfishki and the Giant Cake- IPAD App Review

Elfishki and the Giant Cake  by  Elfishki is another interactive storybook which I had the privilege to review lately.  The vibrant colours and illustrations make it very captivating for me to read it together with the kids. Another fact was that the story was based on one of my favourite food item -cake makes it even more appealing.

The story is about two cooks, Elifizz the owner of a gloomy restaurant named Chest of Ghosts and Maggie of  Gingerbread Nook. Both of them lived  on Rainbow Island  and were at odds with each other  but managed to put aside their differences to work together to make Mr Thomas birthday celebration a success.

Here’s what you find in the iPad application:

1. Original, not found anywhere else captivating texts, designed to develop your child’s conscious reading skills – according to the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts.

2. Stunning interactive art, classic animation and videos.

3. Professional Audio Voice over of the story, so your child can listen along with the text.

4. THREE(3) Questions on every page of the book specifically designed to help your child analyze the text, boost their imagination and make predictions about the story.

5. A bonus game specifically designed to boost your child’s imagination – Decorate the Cake – where you can save and share your child’s fantastic creations

My thoughts

I loved the colourful graphics and interactivity of the pages. The story about working together and putting their differences aside also teaches the reader how to get along with others. The three questions that pop up at the bottom of each page make really good trigger questions to test whether the reader really understands the story. Many a time I have seen young readers just go through the motions of reading a book without really comprehending the story and internalizing the information from it.

My kids love the game app and decorating the cake with all the different ornaments and decorations. It also made a great e-card for kids birthday.

If you are interested to share this interactive storybook with your kids you can download it from the iTunesStore

More information about Elfiski and their products can be found by following them on twitter or check out their facebook page.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
