Recently I have been watching the Racheal Ray show which is showing during lunchtime. During one of the episodes she talked about germs on your handbag which maybe making you sick. That episode mentioned about women’s handbags and the nasty germs/viruses like E coli, Pseudomona or even salmonella.

After watching that episode I realised that I too was guilty of placing my handbag in all the “dirty” places- on the floor in the restaurant, toilet floor etc. I immediately cleared out the contents of my messenger bag and dumped it in for a spin in the washing machine.

Watching that show  got me thinking about my kids school bags and it was time I started educating them on where to place their bags and to run their  canvas backpacks through the wash occasionally. They may have been bringing back these bacteria unknowingly which has resulted in them falling ill.

While teaching in school I have seen my students put their schoolbags practically anywhere and how it has multiple uses for them.  They use their bags as footstools under their desks, tables to do writing when they are seated in the hall before assembly and even chairs to sit on when they are out on the courtyard.

At present my boys would dump their bags  on the couch near  the front door upon returning home. Their bags stay there till they get repacked and ready to be carried out the next morning.  What do your children do with their schoolbags?
