Soc: Keeping Kids Safe

Keeping your child safe.

The attempted kidnapped cases reported on Facebook and the newspaper has sent many parents into a heightened sense of alertness all throughout Singapore. Even though after verification that some of the reported cases were hoaxes it is still better to play safe then sorry when it comes to my kids personal safety.

I’ve recently taken out the child harnesses which I had used with Doggie boy back then when he was a toddler for Tiger girl to use. She is now at this stage whereby she wants to run around as doesn’t not want to hold your hand. It’s extremely dangerous when we go out as being so little she can be very difficult to spot in a crowd. Therefore for now until she is old enough she will be on harness when we go out.

The boys have been briefed about strangers and safety while being out in public places. I have highlighted the reported cases in the newspapers to them and we did a reflection on how they would have felt if they were in the shoes of the kidnapped boy.  There hasn’t been any scenario role play with them as yet but stern warnings to keep within eye shot and my reach when we are out to prevent anything from happening to them. I do know that child trafficking has been on the rise lately.

Many of these kidnapped kids  in China were being maimed and forced to beg for a living. It’s downright human cruelty and abuse just for the sake of exploiting others for money and it has been really difficult for the government to crackdown on such a syndicate.

The only thing which I can do as a parent and on my level is to be vigilant and  to teach my child to defend himself and how to be protect himself from such evil people.

What are you doing to keep your child/children safe?

Friendship Friday- Rainy Days and 5QF

I have been reading about this new meme called Friendship Friday over at Create With Joy and decided to participate in it this week. This week the topic is on Rainy Days.

It has been raining almost every afternoon this week. When we are unable to go out I would do some art & craft with the kids if they are at home.

painting with toothbrushes

Toothbrush painting is something which we do and I’ve written up a guest post on this over at Baxtron{life} this week.

If I am home alone of if the kids are sleeping I would indulge myself in a nap or curl up on the sofa with a good book/E-book to read on the laptop. A pot of tea is something which I would have beside me.

1. What giveaway would you like to do on your blog?
I would like to do a 2K fan giveaway once I get up to near that number on facebook. If you are looking at the current giveaways on the blog just look for the widget on the right which lists all giveaways which are ongoing here on Dominique’s Desk.

2. If you had to choose between natural artistic ability and natural athletic ability, which would it be?
It would certainly be natural artistic ability. I’m not one for being athletic.

3. Do you ditch the coat the minute it becomes “spring” or are you a holdout for more cool temps?
We don’t need coats here in Singapore as it is “hot” all year round. Maybe a thin blazer or so to keep warm under the freezing air-con indoors.

4. What would you do if you won the mega millions lotto of 1/2 billion dollars?
I would firstly donate half to charity,  pay off all debts we have then buy the kids an apartment each before going on a holiday with the family.

5. You are at a hotel by yourself…what do you do?
I would first check if there is a tub and enjoy some ME time with a bubble bath.
