Since last year I have been doing round up post at the end of the month as ” Highlights of the Month.  However this year, I intend to do it slightly different as  besides recollecting the posts shared I will be adding on other memories that I have created within the month with the kids.

In Feburary I shared the remaining Taiwan Holiday posts  where we did pottery, paper making and other crafts.

Like the paper  and clay that are made with our hands how the kids turn out depends on how they are molded from young.  Through having such hands on activities the kids learned that they are able to create beautiful works of art with their hands.

They have been taught that they are capable of greatness and embracing their creative side can give unexpected pleasant results.

The kids have learned that one has to put in effort in order to see results. There is a process involve in learning and gaining knowledge and experiences.  Not all things are easily obtained and hard work is required to achieve what they desire.

One is never too young or too old to learn a new skill.  I believe in giving the kids as many varied experiences as they can during their childhood. These experience will help them figure out what they wish to pursue later in life after they have  obtained the necessary academic qualifications.

Physical activity is really important for a kid in their development. Playing indoor golf was a new experience for the kids which they enjoyed.  I don’t think that I will let them do putting on a long term basis but if they do consider taking up  golf in the future they are welcome to sign on for lessons.

Our kids deserve to have us fully present in their lives and contributing to their growth and development.  I’m blessed to be able to have a flexible work/home arrangement, pursue my own interests and at the same time contribute fully to their welfare and upbringing.

I thank GOD for the blessings that he has showered upon me and the family.  He has been constantly providing for us and does deserve the greatest praise.

How was your month of February?

Leadership and Soft Skills for Students

Leadership and Soft Skills for Students

Leadership And Soft Skills For Students: Empowered To Succeed In High School, College, And Beyond by Cary J Green, PhD is the latest book which I have reviewed.

Divided into 3 parts – Readiness, Relationship and Results the author brings one through a journey of how these skills can be developed.

Cary start of the book making one examine themselves to know more about themselves.

What are your strengths?  Weaknesses?

What do others see as your strengths and weaknesses and  how are you comfortable addressing your weaknesses?

Each chapter is written like a workbook where one has to work through and write down what is requested for you in each topic.

You start of by focusing on your Strengths, weaknesses,  challenges, communication, developing synergies and seeing the results based on what you have worked on.

My thoughts

I’m eager to know how I can assist my kids in developing the leadership and soft skills which they require to excel in society. I guess as a parent we want our kids to develop these essential skills for survival and it was great that I got this book to review.

Many times students/kids are unable to do well in leadership roles as they lack the relevant skills to exhibit their prowess.  They are not taught how to examine themselves, build up their communication skills and other necessary soft skills to relate to others in society.

These skills are not readily taught in schools as the focus is more on academic learning based on the current educational system. As a result the kids are at a disadvantage when they start developing relationship with others.  They do not understand themselves , thus are unable to relate well to others and lead them.

Even though this book is targeted at potential high school kids, tweens it is also good for adults like me who want to revisit and improve on our soft skills.

Do get a copy if you too are interested in developing leadership and  soft skills in your kids.
