You know that Christmas is around the corner when you start seeing lots of Christmas trees everywhere you go. During our vacation to Japan we saw many differently decorated trees. Here are 10 different ones for your viewing pleasure.

1. Christmas tree with a rubic star on the top.

Minnie Mouse Tree

2. Pink Theme Minnie Mouse Tree which we spotted at the Disney Resort Line Station. Doesn’t it look really feminine?

Fruity Tree

3. This is certainly the tree for the health conscious. Filled with many yummy fruits I was so tempted to pluck the fruits off the tree to eat them!!

Large Christmas Tree

4. I saw this majestic looking tree at one of the parade squares in Disneysea. I love the golden ornaments on this tree which gives it a rather regal appearance.

5. You know that you are by the seaside when you see a statue of Mickey with the steering wheel of ship.

6. I’m sure you have heard about gingerbread houses during Christmas but how about a Gingerbread tree? I’m sure that kids will go wild over it if it was really edible.

Red Ribbon Tree

7. This Christmas tree was at the lobby of the hotel which we stayed. The tree was really very tall and touched the ceiling.

Painted on tree

8. In the spirit of Disney and all things magical there was a tree in our hotel room which was painted on the wall. It was the first time that we have seen such decor in a hotel room. The frog painted on the walls looked as if it had just jumped off the tree.

Mini fir trees

9. The kids and I spotted the mini fir trees with the train display in the hotel lobby. The trees added to the village display which they had.

Chip and Dale Treehouse

10. The coolest tree which we saw during our trip is definitely this acorn tree   which Chip and Dale lives in. I am sure it will be uber cool to have such a tree in the backyard if we were living in a house.

What type of trees have you seen this December?

The Calorie Myth by Jonathan Bailor

Book Cover

Book Cover

The Calorie Myth: How to Eat More, Exercise Less, Lose Weight, and Live Better by Jonathan Bailor is the latest book which I have read in bid to keep healthy. It hasn’t been easy to lose weight since I entered the 30s. My weight has increased and I have yet to return to my ideal weight even though Tiger girl is already 3 years old.

In the book Jonathan Bailor shares that counting calories doesn’t help. Yes calories do affect your weight and weight lost but it is more important to know what is your set point in your body and how to go about keeping fit and healthy.

Eating less will only destroy your bodies need to burn fat and as a result you gain weight faster then you had lost weight during starvation. Yo-yo dieting has caused major health issues in adults.

Exercising more also doesn’t mean that you will lose weight. You may gain weight too as you take in more low quality foods like sweetened energy drinks.

The quality of the calories that we put into our body is the one that affects our weight and health. To achieve healthy weight loss and keep it off would mean that you have to understand how to be SANE.

Satiety: How quickly the calories fill us up and keep us full
Aggression: How likely the calories are likely to be stored as body fat.
Nutrition: How many nutrition Aka vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids, essential amino acids does the calories provide.
Efficiency: How much of the calories can be stored as body fats.

My thoughts

It was an eye opener reading this book.  I know that there are many myths surrounding calorie counting , exercising and moderation.  Jonathan Bailor gave a very clear explanation on how these myths came about. A lot of these problems and issues that we are facing today are due to  the drive for profits by the governments and large cooperation who want us to have bad health so they can benefit from it.

Reducing grains, starch and sugars do wonders for improving one’s health.  Avoid potatoes, rice and corn and eat more non starchy vegetables. Half of your plate should be of vegetables while 1/3 proteins and the rest fruits and other fats.

Do SMART exercises and eating properly is the way to go. There is a sample one week eating guide in the book however many of the ingredients are not readily available in Singapore and I am not in favor of using xyla xylitol and whey protein in my food. I will certainly pay more attention to the foods that I serve the kids at home.

You can grab a copy of The Calorie Myth: How to Eat More, Exercise Less, Lose Weight, and Live Better by Jonathan Bailor from major bookstores.
