Weekend Reflection: Focusing on Healthy Eating

This whole week has been quite a frenzy for me. I’ve decided on creating a weekly/monthly dinner menu for our family and have been compiling all the recipes which I will be using in meal preparation from the stash of cookbooks that I have accumulated over the years.

I’ve decided that we should eat more healthy at home and cut down on processed food and if possible eliminate them totally. I’m introducing more fresh vegetables and fruits to the kids and paying special attention to minimize their exposure to the items that were listed in the ‘Dirty Dozen” list.

It can be very cumbersome to flip through many different cookbooks just to look for a certain recipe. It is really time consuming especially if you are preparing a 3 or 4 course dinner and have to write out your grocery list for the week.  I feel that it would certainly be more efficient if I do have all the recipes of the dishes that I often make/ wish to make on hand in one place.

It would certainly cut down the time needed per week for menu planning and free up more time to do other projects around the house.

A Food File would be the best way  to allow me to compile the menus which I wish to work with. I’ve decided that we will be eating a fusion of Japanese, Western and Chinese dishes.  Dinner would be a soup, one or two different types of vegetables and one meat. If there was extra time I would also add on desserts for both the kids and adults making it a 4-6 course meal for the night.

How is meal preparation being done in your household?

Weekend Reflections: Looking Forward

Looking at the horizon

Looking at the horizon

The first week of January 2014 is almost over. School has started for the kids and everyone is slowly adjusting to the new routines. No more late night for everyone as the day now starts at 6 am since school has started.

There are more things which I am packing into my schedule and I am optimistic that I will be able to meet my monthly goals for January. There are still a few things which I need to prepare like the devotional reading schedule and follow up activities for the kids.  I too need to fill out my blogging calendar for the year and study schedule as I intend to go full swing from next week onward.

I will be making changes in my diet and exercise routine and stepping up on doing more exercising with the kids over the weekend. We will be embracing a more healthy diet with an increase in vegetables and fruits.  We will actively cut down on unhealthy and processed foods in our household and replace the available snacks with healthier options.

I personally will be cutting down on sweets and baked products as through my readings it has been hampering my weight lost attempt big time. I need a lifestyle makeover and 2014 is going to be the year that I will be doing it.

It may not be that easy as we will be celebrating Chinese New Year and welcoming in the year of the Horse at the end of the month. There are still many things that I need to get done but I’m sure by working methodically I will be able to get it all done.
