Writer’s Workshop: Purchased for $500

My New Macro Lens

My New Macro Lens

If you were given $500  for only  one purchase how would you spend it ? I recently had the chance to personally experience this kind of buying experience when I went on a shopping spree.

I purchased an item which I had be deliberating on for a really long time.  Something that I had my eye on but wasn’t sure if I could afford it back then.
Tamron AF 90mm f/2.8 Di SP AF/MF 1:1 Macro Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras for $500(SG$ 520) is what I decided on in the end. I had been looking through the various photography sites and magazines reading up the reviews on both Tamron and Canon lenses. The fixed focal lens from Canon (Marco 100) has discontinued support so the Tamron lens was a better buy and really value for money.

I’ve always loved taking photos of flowers and doing macro shots. With a macro lens it would certainly help me take better pictures and improve on my photography skills.

Purple Bloom

Purple Bloom

The blooms that I bought this week to try out the new lens on. I can see an immediate difference in the type of shot taken with the camera.

Chicken Salad

Chicken Salad

It is so much easier to take better food pictures with it too. Doesn’t the salad look extra juicy shot with the lens?

What would you have bought for $500?

Would you invest it on yourself or your kids?

Writer’s Workshop: Only Two

Tiger girl striking a pose

Tiger girl striking a pose

Girls really grow up very fast. They mature much faster then boys and learn extremely fast. I have seen a lot of changes in Tiger girl since she turned two years old.

Her vocabulary  has increased tremendously and she can now carry out a full length conversation with her grandmother on the phone. She is able to relate what she has done in school and ask you how your day is.She is able to follow instructions and asks questions if she is unsure about how to carry them out. She shows a lot of interest in reading and learning new things.

Tiger girl gets very frustrated when other people doubt her ability and gives them the ” stop looking at me like that look

” when they wonder if she is able to do the task at hand.  Her favourite sentence is  ” I will do it myself!!” if we try to guide or assist her to complete the task.

She sure has a really independent streak and is not scared to try things out first on her own. Sometimes after trying a few times and not being able to figure out how to do it she will come and ask me ” Mummy help me please!!”

I’m glad that she tries and does not give up easily.  She has a really positive attitude and it will certainly bring her far.

How was your kid behaving when he/she was two?

Were there any memorable moments?
