Writer’s Workshop : I Currently Like

Salad

Persian Salad with tomatoes

There are many different  things that I like at the moment. I’ve started a few changes to my routines this January and am loving seeing how the changes have benefited me so far.

Here is a list of 5 of the things that I currently like.

1. Eating more salads.
I make salad a twice a week and incorporate more varied vegetables into our family diet since starting menu planning.  I simply love the Persian Salad with tomatoes which is really easy to make. I found this recipe from the book on Tomatoes and tomato dishes which I borrowed from the library.

2. Playing with the kids.

It is fun having them around and we can go crazy on the swings and slides in the park or even playing catch. Sometimes when it is raining and we have to stay indoors it is fun  having a race with the remote control cars or playing dress up or dollhouse.

Writer’s Workshop: Have You Forgotten how to do this?

Monkey boy posing behind the bars

Living in the 21st century we are constantly pressed for time . Everyone seems to be in a hurry and unwilling to take time out to slow down and really enjoy the moment.  Since the technological revolution the world has certainly changed a lot. Peoples attitude and behaviour has changed and unfortunately more often for the worst then the better.

Here is a list of 8 things that I’m certain that many people have forgotten to do.

1) Be Courteous.
” Excuse me”, ” Please” ,”Thank you” and ” You’re Welcome” are words that should be said more often.

2) How to send cards or write letters

Everything is electronic nowadays. Even when the kids contact their grandma who stays in Hongkong it is through e-mail, skype or Whatsapp.

3) Be Patient

We have become accustomed to Fast delivery and fast service so when things don’t happen in an instant we get frustrated.

4) To think by ourselves

There seems to be an App for every single thing and most of the time we are too reliant on that or the internet to find out answers then to think rationally by ourselves what is right or wrong.

5) Be fully present

Every time I go out I see a lot of busy occupied with their electronic gadgets. While waiting for meals to be served in a restaurant I see many people seated at the table peering or busy with their hand phones or iPads. Hardly anyone communicates face to face with each other.

6) Read a hard copy book

Many books nowadays come in PDF or other electronic versions. Bookstores also have been closing down one after another. Very seldom do we get a chance to purchase a book and hold it in our hands to read.

7) Focus on health and well being first.

In the rat race for money and status health and well being is often neglected. This can have really detrimental effect on our body and spirit in the long run.

8) Having time to just chill

Sitting down at a cafe just to enjoy the tea and spend time enjoying the time you have on hand is really a rarity these days.

What are the things you think you have forgotten to do?

Would you start doing them again?
