Happy 9th Birthday Monkey Boy

The kids and me

The kids and me

Over the weekend we celebrate Monkey boy’s 9th birthday. This year I didn’t get around to making him a 3D Formula One car as he requested as I didn’t have the time to get all the necessary ingredients. I decided on doing a chocolate cake with a variety of different chocolates for him.

I used biscuit sticks to represent the different lanes and Kinder Bueno white chocolate to represent the cars. I used buttercream to decorate the top of the cake and piped in stars all around. Monkey boy’s name was also written by using butter cream.  The kids love M & M chocolate and they were use to decorate the side of the cake. I threw coloured sprinkles on the top to jazz up the cake and make it more colourful. It was a 3 hour effort baking and decorating the cake in between Swimming and Sunday school lesson.

Getting ready to blow out the candle

Getting ready to blow out the candle

The kids took turn blowing out the candle as all of them loved  seeing the fire being extinguished as they blow. I guess all kids love this the most during the cake cutting session. All three of them couldn’t  wait to blow out the candle. It would have been great if I bought the candles that would automatically relight by themselves like the ones I used for Doggie boy’s birthday last year. It would certainly save me the hassle of having to manually relight the candle more then six times!!

After the candle was finally blown up each of them started attacking the “cars” and wolfed down the chocolates and biscuit sticks even before I could take the cake away to be cut up properly.

What types of cakes do you have for your kids birthdays?

Raddish Cake and Chicken Feet

Fried Carrot Cake

Fried Raddish Cake

Raddish Cake is Monkey boy’s favourite dish whenever we go to a Chinese restaurant for breakfast. It is a dish which he must order if we are having Dim Sum.

Braised Chicken Feet

Braised Chicken Feet

This is a dish which I wouldn’t eat. I don’t fancy eating feet but it is something that most Cantonese love eating. R & Monkey boy would dig into this while the other kids and me would rather have the more normal Har Gao and Siu Mai instead.

Would you try eating Chicken Feet?
