Bears, Bears and more Bears

Bears in a pond

Bears in a pond

I’ve always loved looking at bears. During our trip to Jeju island, Korea we visited the Teddy Bear Museum.  In the outdoor garden they had statues of bears all over.  The bears in the above picture are enjoying cooling off in the pond.

Further up on the path we  met a family of black bears who were enjoying the hot afternoon sun.  They were smack in the middle of the path and we have to re-route around them to get to the fountain.

The  teddy bears at this fountain would twirl around at certain times of the day. Unfortunately we were not able to witness the bears moving while we were at the outdoor park as I guess it wasn’t the show time at the fountain.

Do you love bears too?

Carnivorous Plants

Pitcher Plant

Pitcher Plant

While at my aunt’s place over the weekend and spotted these plants in her garden. It was the first time the kids and I saw a pitcher plant up close. They were surprised to hear that this plant actually eats insects.

Insects are attracted to the sweet nectar within the pitcher. When they enter the pitcher to taste the nectar the top of the picture closes trapping the insect inside. The insect has no way to escape and the liquid within the pitcher actually is a liquid which dissolves the body of the insect and hence the plants “eats” the insect that way.  Interesting isn’t it?
