Dragon’s Galore- River HongBao 2012

This year we went down to the view the displays at the River HongBao 2012 in the afternoon. The place wasn’t as crowded as it usually is at night as it opens at midday. However it was scorching hot in the midday sun. There were many different dragons on display and I managed to snap some with my camera. I love how colourful the dragons are and the ornate designs on them. The kids however were not too keen on seeing the displays but more interested in the kiddy rides which they had at the funfair there.

Another festive looking dragon

I love this one the best.. a really “chubby” looking dragon.

This dragon has a gourd on it’s body.

10 Things we did this Chinese New Year

Yesterday we celebrated the first day of the Year of The Dragon. The kids were dressed up in their  traditional Chinese costumes before we left the house.

Here is a list of  ten thing we  did on the 1st day of Chinese New Year

  1. Visit church and attend the Chinese New Year Mass
  2. Eat the blessed oranges that we received from church.
  3. Pay respects to the elders by wishing them happy Chinese New Year, best of health and other auspicious sayings.
  4. Exchange oranges with  relatives we visited.
  5. Distribute red packets to the children, nephews and nieces. The kids were extremely happy as they were the recipients of the red packets.
  6. Savor the various CNY tidbits like almond cookies, roasted meats and tarts.
  7. Take part in the annual “Lao Yu Sheng” for good luck.
  8. Play cards with the kids/cousins.
  9. Catch up with relatives that we haven’t seen in a long time.
  10. Watch the countdown and CNY fireworks  on TV .
