Happipets By Happi-IPAD App Review
Happipets the animal spelling app from developers Happi Ideas is one of the most unusual spelling app that I have seen so far. It is the first puzzle app for creating animals and scenes with the letters of the alphabet used as the building blocks.
Children can not only form the word that spells the animal like Lion but actually use the alphabets to create a picture of a Lion. By doing so they are sparking the creativity in the child and also reinforces the learning of how to spell the animal in this case.
There are three modes to the app – 1) Play , 2)Build and C) Create.

My thoughts on the App
I tried out this app with my 5 year old
as I was keen to see how he reacted to this nifty spelling tool. At first he wasn’t too sure what to do with the app as there were no vocal instructions given on what he could do. He had to find out what to do under the play mode through trial and error.
Doggie boy had fun moving the alphabet by rotating, flipping, turning and resizing them to look like the animal after figuring out that it was acutally possible to do so. . However it wasn’t easy for him to figure out how to put the alphabets in the correct position for it to sound out in a “roar” for the lion or “moo” for the cow.
Luckily, Happipets makes it a bit easier to visualize these animals with the handy help feature. It briefly displays the “completed” picture of the animal which he had to make. we used the help feature a couple of times to figure out how the animal was suppose to look like and relied on it heavily to finish up his pictures.
Under the build mode we could create 12 mythological beasts which could come alive when the alphabets used to describe them are arranged into the correct order. There were also 140 letter designs which he could use to create his own happipet in the Create section. Doggie boy could save his creation and share it via Facebook or twitter as these sharing platforms are integrated in the App design.
I loved the concept of that lets the child be actively involved while they learn how to spell by using their creativity. However even for a 5 year old it was difficult for them to figure out how the App works without detailed parental guidance.
I would like to see more animals of choice in the play section and maybe if it is possible for them to incorporate the movement of the animal besides the voice once the picture of the animal is correctly fixed.
