An Alphabet Book by the Kids of the Brooke Jackman Foundation

ABC My Family and ME, An Alphabet book by the kids of the Brooke Jackman foundation is one of the most meaningful  kids books which has ever been made. This  compilation book takes the readers on a journey through the 26  letters of the alphabet with each letter highlighting a child’s favourite family traits.

Each letter of the alphabet tells a different story together with the drawing done by the child who’s age range from 3-14 years old. Short snippets of their holiday memories, insights to their daily lives, family habits and lifestyles.

This book was featured in this year’s BJF Read-a-thon that was held to commemorate the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks as well as the 11th anniversary of the Brooke Jackman foundation. The foundation was created to honor , Brooke Jackman, a bright and compassionate 23 year old who was killed in the 9/11 terrorist attacks before achieving her dream of becoming a social worker. Brooke was an avid reader, and her passion and commitment to literacy and helping children spurred her family to create BJF as her living legacy.

My thoughts

I love the cover which was created by renowned illustrator Cozbi Caberera. It summaries the  essence of the book and it’s focus on the family.  The individual descriptions that accompany each letter of the alphabet makes it a one of the kind alphabet book which is different from the traditional alphabet book which  I have read with the kids.

I feel that this book is a really meaningful book as it conveys the message of family love besides teaching the letters of the alphabet. Also the most  remarkable aspect of the book that it was created with the help of the kids to help fund the foundation and other needy kids which the foundation hopes to reach out to.

Do hope over to the Brooke Jackman Foundation to find out more about how they have been helping the kids and how you too can be involved in their  foundation.

Weekend Reflection: An Enduring Friendship

Birthday cake

The birthday cake that we picked out for RK

Last weekend we had a rare visitor to our house. R’s best friend RK was in town to visit his relatives and to spend some time with us.  It has been a long time since he  has visited us with his last trip to Singapore being 4 years ago. The kids do meet up with RK when we go back to Hong Kong to visit the family and were thrilled to have him come over this time.

RK and R’s friendship goes back  to their school boy days. Both of them were acquainted in their high school years and have know each other for more then two decades. RK was our best man at our wedding and our wedding photos were all taken in his studio back in Hong Kong. The two best friends have always kept in contact even though they haven’t been staying in the same country for the past 15 years. They can talk about anything under the sun and truly enjoy each other’s company.

I hope that my kids too will be able to forge such strong friendships like their dad has. Friendship that spans past more then two decades and stand the test of time.

Do you wish for the same thing for your kids too?
