Ice-cream Sundae

Ice-cream Sundae

Fancy an ice-cream Sundae?

What would be your favourite flavor?

Tiger girl and I started doing Hama Bead Crafting last month. Since then we have done a couple of new pieces and as you can see her current obsession is on ice-cream.

A Cherry Popsicle.

A Cherry Popsicle.

Tiger girl has been having a cough so I have made her refrained from  eating ice-cream. We have been “making” ice-cream though using the beads.

A Ballerina

A Ballerina

Besides food related items that we made this ballerina which Tiger girl spotted on Pinterest.  My little girl loves pink and insisted that we started creating this particular one after printing out the template.

Pink Horse

Pink Horse

My girl really loves Pink. You can see the color here in this horse which we created. I added on the “Cutie mark” to this creation as it was suppose to be a relative to the My Little Pony series of Ponies which we created earlier on.

Rainbow bear and Love -A-Lot Bear

Rainbow bear and Love -A-Lot Bear

Besides ponies Tiger girl loves bears too. We create Rainbow Bear and Love -A-Lot bear based on the templates we found. I remember back then when I was  a child we used to watch the Care Bears on TV and I had a Love- A-Lot soft toy to cuddle.

Holding the Hama craft creations to play with is so much more fun then just seeing them in 2D. We created this mask using disposable chopsticks as the “stick” to support it. Surprisingly the hama beads were quite heavy and we required two sticks instead of one for the handle.

Totoro Keychain

Totoro Keychain

Besides creating Hama crafts with the girl I made this Totoro Keychain above as a Valentine’s Day present for another friend of mine.

What have you been creating lately?

Cybertraps for Educators

Cybertraps for Educators

Cybertraps for Educators

Cybertraps for Educators by Frederick S.Lane is a must read for all educators who want to know more about the dangers of the use of modern technology. The internet is a large part of our lifestyle nowadays. We use it in both our work and home for  many different purposes and should be well aware of the traps and perils of it’s usage.

The twenty three chapters in the book comprises of case studies and problems that educators faced during their career relating to the use of the internet inside and outside the workplace.

Cyberloafing, Cyberporn, cyberstalking, cyberbullying and  sexting are topics that are covered in detail. All these have serious repercussions for the individuals who are involved in these illegal activities.  An educators career is at stake if he/she is caught guilty  or implicated in of any of the crimes mentioned above.

It is one thing to be social and another thing to have your live out your life under the microscope being a  “celebrity”  due to the wrong reasons.  Once you fall into such a trap it is certainly very hard to escape from it.

My thoughts

Technology and it’s accessibility can be a double edge sword for educators. It can be use for as a means to source for additional teaching material. It can enhance the learning experience for the students through the use of various online programs or apps.

It is used for stimulating interaction between students and enhancing their ability to understand certain concepts that were being taught.

All these are good and beneficial however there is a fine line between using it for good and being harmed by it’s usage.

Educators need to know where that LINE is and the need to keep certain information private and away from the prying eyes of colleagues and students.

Whatever we put out in the WWW has to be seriously scrutinized before we press the button publish.

I found this book a thought provoking read and it really shows the dark side to using online social media and having a public online profile as an educator.

If you are interested in reading in detail about the various Cybertraps do grab a copy of Cybertraps for Educators from Amazon.
