TT- Tackling the Stage
Being infront of a many students and parents on an important occasion is not something which I fancy. Being the MC (Host) for an event is my least favourite job.
Standing in front of a crowd gives me the jitters and not something which I like doing. A classroom setting is more comfortable to me then a hall or auditorium. I feel more at ease and less tense.
It feels seriously uncomfortable having so many pairs of eyes fixated on you. It sends a chill down my spine and I hope not to make too many spoken errors during my “air time”.
Today I had to grit my teeth, put on a smile and withstand the 1.5hr “ordeal” for our Annual Prize Giving Ceremony. I had to constantly remind myself to read slowly and clearly and not to panic. It would only be a while before it will be all over.
The event went out without any major hitches . I was able to heave a sigh of relieve after the event was over.
How do you tackle stage fright?

You know, I don’t know how I do it. Anytime I’ve had to do it I just smile and just do it. No psychological tools or secret weapons. I just go! I don’t really enjoy being the center of attention either. I bet you did great though!
Stop by my Tackle-it Tuesday if you have a chance! 🙂

Great job! I think it is just human nature to have anxiety when we are on stage. For me, I do get that too when I am required to speak especially for an important event. I enjoy performing more than public speaking :). LIke you, I am very comfortable in classroom settings which is very much required of me in my job as a music educator.

@Karen,
Thanks.. a semi-private “stage” is more comfortable for us teachers.

Dominique, I feel for you! That’s tough to do!! Great Tackle! I am comfortable in the classroom too, but not when I have to speak at assemblies in front of many parents!! I have to do it as part of my job too, so I just concentrate on my breathing before. I do the breathing they do in yoga and visualize the ocean, which always relaxes me. I always have quick and easy notes to glance at, if I panic and can’t remember what I was going to say. Usually I don’t even look at them, but having them makes me feel calmer!
Great job!
