Weekend Reflection: An Enduring Friendship
The birthday cake that we picked out for RK
Last weekend we had a rare visitor to our house. R’s best friend RK was in town to visit his relatives and to spend some time with us. It has been a long time since he has visited us with his last trip to Singapore being 4 years ago. The kids do meet up with RK when we go back to Hong Kong to visit the family and were thrilled to have him come over this time.
RK and R’s friendship goes back to their school boy days. Both of them were acquainted in their high school years and have know each other for more then two decades. RK was our best man at our wedding and our wedding photos were all taken in his studio back in Hong Kong. The two best friends have always kept in contact even though they haven’t been staying in the same country for the past 15 years. They can talk about anything under the sun and truly enjoy each other’s company.
I hope that my kids too will be able to forge such strong friendships like their dad has. Friendship that spans past more then two decades and stand the test of time.
Do you wish for the same thing for your kids too?

It’s rare to find really good friendships. So when one finds it, there should be no letting go though sometimes it may take a second seat as in when having your own family. But real friends understand and supports each other.

Friendships like these are rare! I had recently re-connected with a primary school friend who was my bestie then and it doesn’t matter we talked kiddish back then, we can still click now as it is. And yes, I would love if my kids would forge friendships with their friends this way too. It takes 2 hands to clap.

I do wish that for my son. We live in a military town. We are retired now and I’m afraid he will see more go than not. It makes me sad to think about his first goodbye.

I definitely would like my kids to have friendships like that! The shared history builds a strong foundation.

That is definitely one of my strongest prayers for my kids–not only enduring friendships, but friends who will inspire them to be good people. I also pray that I can teach my children to be friends like that.

Genuine friends nowadays is really rare. In time I’ll be a mom I’ll make sure to know all my kids friends so I can be at ease to know he/she has a good set of friends
